It all depends on the source of the leak...

Herman is probably livid at the leak. It was the day before Houston's last game of the season. His agent didn't leak the info. There's no way this guy allowed his agent to leak the reports the day before his team plays Memphis, a decent team in his division.
So, it's either UT or LSU that leaked it. LSU had something to lose by leaking it. UT didn't.

The question is, if his agent didn't give them the info, then who did? How'd they know he was close to signing with LSU?

It was reported it was a UT booster that leaked it then confirmed by an ESPN reporter who is also a UT insider. I feel like LSU didn't have much to do with it.

Yeah someone had to tell the UT people

This. It was his agent.

I'm sure his agent was allowed to let UT boosters know that LSU was closing in, however they didn't realize how fricked up UT is and that they would release that news to ESPN.

Unless you're ESPN. Then you just shite all over whoever you want, regardless of who leaked what.

This makes sense, I'm not arguing against it..just trying to hash out wtf is going on.

Lsu could have leaked it to force Jimbo down in his number

Or nah. It's widely known his dream job is Texas. The leak will either spur them to action, or not. If it doesn't, he prolly accepts the LSU job and bemoans the leak saying he wish he'd been able to tell his guys instead of them seeing it on espn. If it smokes spur action, he gets what he wanted any way.
Either way, I doubt he's livid.

Why would his agent leak that? If anything it makes Herman look like a dick.

I think he's done with the source of the leak. If he directed his agent to leak he was close to inking a deal with LSU the night before a conference game on the road, I'd be shocked. I'd be more than shocked.

Damn it you people are dense. The source from ESPN was Chris Low who publicly stated last night in bold type running at the bottom of everyone's tvs. that it was from orangebloods.com. ESPN brass are jacking off with all the pub they are getting assholes.

My question is: how did ut find out? Did herman's agent give them a courtesy call?

Only to idiots does Herman look bad. This is how the world works. It's also how you maximize your financial opportunities in a negotiation.
It's really not that complicated.

I feel ya. Ultimately we all realize it was texas boosters who broke it to Chip Brown/ESPN but how'd that information get into their hands? The assumption that his agent told them what was going on feels correct, but whether it was a ploy to get them in action or to let them know he was going in another direction is where we're at now.

You're probably incorrect in this statement.
If his agent didn't leak the info to get Texas to move on him instead of dragging this out, then his agent didn't do his job.
All agents want a bidding war for their clients so they can get the most money for them. A LSU vs. Texas bidding war would throw the price for Herman way up.
I would bet the UT booster contacted Herman's agent and got the info, then dropped it to force Texas to move on Herman.

I think UT was probably negotiating with Herman as well. They could have been privy to negotiations.

I agree with you. LSU makes 0 sense. His agent leaking for leverage could backfire if LSU withdraws from negotiations over it. They have no leverage with only one team left at the table.

I'm glad someone else understands how this works.
