I don't believe I mentioned Herman. I've merely stated that LSU can easily hang in a bidding war over a coach.

In fact, I think LSU needs to offer Saban and Meyer $10 million just so Bama and OSU will be forced to match

Herman has a degree from Texas, was a GA there, and has said it is his dream job. I think Texas is the only team that we would lose Herman to. So, Hook 'em Charlie, we're counting on you.

Why jump to LSU and face a fan base that has insanely high expectations -

its really not the situation and its what most are missing the boat on nationally. Losses the fan base can handle. It's how Les was losing and how his teams looked on the field that caused the fan base to turn

Even most of our wins were hard to watch and enjoy. Good lord i feel terrible saying that but it's absolutely true.

LSU can use some of their profit money and easily match any salary offered.

Texas offered Charlie Strong, widely regarded as low backup plan, >$5mil fully guaranteed. If you are asking who is going to win a war of stupid, it isn't LSU

At what point does the money get so big that LSU says "This is absurd for a year 3 coach with limited big program experience?"

I imagine at Texas that number is higher since Herman checks some serious boxes they are known to covet (and missed on w Strong)

-Alumni
-Experience handling big time TX boosters
-Experience recruiting TX
-Understands UT brand
-Texas = Dream Job
-Puts lower TX school in their place

-Texas Ego will never allow them to admit to losing due to being outbid

ETA

I don't doubt if you could somehow guarantee championships, LSU could pay 10,15 or even $20mil/yr if need be.

There is no way their "This is getting stupid" number is higher than TX though

Yes, yes I do

We can match every penny but if UT is open common sense tells you they have the edge.

That said, fricking hook 'em

True. Which is why I said willpower matters. I doubt Texas would go over 10 million a year, they surely wouldn't go over 20. They don't think they'd have to because they're Texas. We would if that's what it took. And yes we can easily afford that. So can you guys but it would take a serious commitment

The fact that you think Alabama can compete monetarily with Texas is laughable. Bama is not in the same stratosphere as UT. 2015 Forbes listing of College Footballs most valuable teams had Texas as #1 (and #2 wasn't close). By the way, LSU was #4 and Alabama was #8.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit I see.

Bama would match or beat anything up to probably 20 million a year. Texas won't go anywhere near that. You won't either.

So called "unlimited" resources aren't unlimited if you don't have the willpower to use them.

We've shown we're motivated enough to keep going when "sane" programs stop.

So sack up and empty the piggy bank to get the guy you want.

We did and yall called us crazy at the time. 4 more titles later, still think so?

A little crazy might just be what you need.

What makes the LSU gig more attractive in your opinion?

The conference LSU plays in. Compare the 2 conferences. One is rife with contention and uncertainty and the other is the most prestigious and most well respected in all of football. It's bush leage vs the big leagues. If I am a young ambitious head coach, and the money is similar, I want to prove myself in the big leagues. He'd also get to test himself against arguably the best college coach ever. That may sound daunting to some, but to a young confident man, that kind of opportunity makes the hair on your neck stand up. If he comes in and holds his own against Saban or (gasp) gets the better of him...

Some people seek out the biggest challenge.

Herman may have an entirely different set of criteria. But the conference angle shouldn't be ignored.

One has an alpha program in Bama

In the other you get to inherit the alpha program that conference officials wipe your arse for you

He'd 100% go to Texas.

He got his masters there, it's a better job, and in a FAR better city.

Wouldn't even be close.

No, and not because of money, but because he has already made it known to his coaching buddies that that is the job he wants..

Why does everyone assume Texas is Herman's dream job? Has he said this publicly? Just because he coaches in Texas now doesn't necessarily mean he wants to forever.
