do you believe LSU gets their guy?

I know that you can't predict the future, but the talk that LSU is going to go after Herman has to be on Texas's radar, which imo gives Strong an even shorter leash. I think that job will be open at the end of the year.

So, hypothetically, if Texas & LSU both go after Herman, do you think LSU can/will beat them out for his services?

What makes the LSU gig more attractive in your opinion? I'm not arguing with you, I was just thinking about this earlier and was wondering what LSU could offer that Texas couldn't.

Texas would have to lose to some pretty bad Big 12 teams. And he's only lost 1 game on the road in his 3rd season. They get OU, TCU, and Baylor at home. They may lose 3 games total and not enough to fire him IMHO.

I guess I'm just not as high on how good they are this year as others. But like I said, hypothetically if they were both open.

Right, but the most of the Big 12 is down this year. If they lose to Oklahoma State this weekend then maybe it could happen if they drop 3 to OU, TCU, and Baylor. I think they only lose to OSU and TCU though. Their schedule is laughably bad.

If the Texas job comes open Charlie Strong would be a homerun for LSU.

True, but he's proven it doesn't take him very long to get it rolling.

If Texas is cutthroat enough to fire Strong after this year, they are not going to frick around and will outspend LSU. It's the only school I worry about competing with. No one can beat them 1 on 1.

That's my only concern. I would think if he gets to 8 he'd be safe. Just don't know if 7 would be enough after back to back 5-7. On a normal year I would think so, just don't know if a big opening like LSU makes Texas a little more willing to move on from Strong if they want Herman.

If those are the two choices he has than our chances of landing him are slim imo. UT has everything you would want in a destination job with one huge outlier of a reason to go, their wallet is fatter than ANYONE else's. If you go to Texas and are extremely successful their no one can out spend them to get you except maybe the NFL. You have the tradition, the facilities, the recruiting base, the fan base and the cash to go along with it. If it is between UT and LSU for Herman at the end of the season we had better have a really strong backup plan in place!!!

Not if Herman were to go to Texas, they would recruit really, really well.

Is money really going to be the deciding factor? He'll get a top 5-10 contract from whomever. Most top schools have f you money. But, based based on optics, nobody is going to give him Saban money. So, it's going to come down to lifestyle, recruiting, what conference does he want to be in, etc. I'm guessing facilities are essentially a wash as everyone has nice ones, and LSU will buck up if that's an issue.

C4LSU - you are 1,000% correct. If the rumors "and I believe them" that Texas was going to spend $10ml per year to get Saban then we can't compete with that. I think we could compete if he was here at LSU and was very successful winning championships here and was targeted by UT, then I think the powers at be would pay up to keep him "like they did with Miles." But no way the board will compete with UT's pockets if UT really wants Herman. Like I said in an earlier post on this thread. If at the end of the season it is a boat race between UT and LSU for Herman's services, we had better have a very good back up plan because we are not only going to need it, we will have to use it!!!

sure they can. It's just a matter of willpower.

Texas would probably drop out at 10 million or so.

We'd have doubled that if necessary, but as everyone knows we're nuts when it comes to winning football.

Texas actually has some talent on that roster. It wouldn't be a complete rebuild.

The invasive administration at Texas would be a negative in my opinion. Of course there are politics involved with the LSU job, but not nearly as bad. He would have more freedom to coach and run the show at LSU.

If Texas comes calling I think its a done deal. Just my opinion.

But I do hope Strong does well enough to keep going. He didnt have much to work with when he got there.
