Nope. If we let him walk for anything less than 15 (which is silly because no one will go that high, but if UT wants to play that game then so can we) then I'm going to start questioning the decision making at our University.

They'd be incredibly stupid not to. I'd suggest looking at the financial condition of the AD before his hire compared to now, as well as enrollment numbers due to the hype.

I'd seriously question the decision making at any university that would pay a COACH $15M. Nearly double the salary of the highest paid NFL coach. That is an obnoxious amount of money to spend on one man.

This is still a school after all.

It will not be about the money if he leaves! There is life after football and the state of Texas has a whole lot more to offer than the state of Alabama. Not to mention the fact he has expressed frustration with boosters at Alabama

I remember when rumors were swirling when he was leaving LSU to go to Miami that LSU was offering him 4 million to stay. Everyone laughed at that time, saying no coach was worth that.

$10MM is the number, plus relieve some debt on bad deals he is part of in Texas and Louisiana.

Just saying, more than salary at play for Saban to Texas....

Saban at UTX would have more lucrative opportunities for corporate speaking and endorsements ---e.g dell computer & other big companies

Alabama-- the state--has one Fortune 500 company HQ

the 10M/12M type of dollar figures in base salary could cause some academic backlash at UTX.

Counterpoint to that is that Nick Saban can get any speaking engagement he wants right now....anywhere, especially in the south.

If Saban gets/has the right PR agent, where he coaches(d) doesn't matter. Nick Saban is his own brand now.

Honesty, at this point it's pretty much down to what Terry Saban wants.

I can't see him leaving either.

He would not have the control he has at UA.

Even Texas isn't big enough to hold the egos of both Saban and Jerry Jones.

Agree wholeheartedly. The man has an economic value to the school and the surrounding area that has little to do with his value as a great football coach.

any speaking engagement

..type of speaking engagements/motivational consultant deal --i was thinking of-- would be on an annual contract basis and 7 figures at multiple large businesses ...of course Saban has speaking engagements now ...but TX would be a way larger dollar figure

how many of those are huge fortune 500/1000 companies or huge private businesses?

Saban's current fee for speaking is around 20-30K--according to this link

And you are sure Saban wants to do a ton more of those speaking opps?

If Texas shells out 10m, he and his family would have all the money he needs.

i don't that's why this thread is--Hypothetically speaking

it's just a way to offer a lucrative financial package beyond base salary and not disclose the numbers to the media (since the deals would be between saban and TX companies)--some of those deals wouldn't require much work for Saban

eg: speak once a year at annual meeting for a 1 MM; some tech company could even offer it in stock options which are taxed at a lower rate

eg: same number of tv commercials--but the rate saban earns goes up exponentially

Texas state GDP is over 1.4 Trillion....Alabama's state GDP is 174 Billion....that gives UTX more monetary tools to work with

I bet they would reduce those requirements.

We are not going to risk more Shula Eras. We'd only go that high if forced to. If he walks because we couldn't match the offer, it is bullshite. If he leaves, make sure it is because he wants to be the Texas Head Coach, NOT because we couldn't pay him.

I think they offer an 5 yr deal worth 8 million a year and a 10 million bonus setup in an annuity if he stays until the end of the 5 yr deal. 50 million 5 yr deal.
