A poster pulled this out of his arse and Schiano has got to be on a short list for a lot of college teams HC jobs or NFL coordinator jobs.

While I mostly agree that its interesting he's not considered more in that category on the lists of available coaches, I see some positives about him being at LSU.

1. Comes into an established program with very good pay relative to the position
2. loaded with talent at every position on the defense, coming off years of good defensive products
3. a really convenient and steady pipeline of talent in Louisiana making recruiting easy.
4. He doesnt have to go to a program that just fired their coach and rebuild shite, hire a bunch of coaches, and re-establish/establish new recruiting pipelines, and then face the uncertainty that it might be the program as a whole that's the drag on success instead of what the HC does.

5. He can kick arse as a defensive coord at LSU and maintain a good reputation as a coach instead of going to a team where he's set up to fail and then his stock drops a bit for the next gig he may want.

All in all, Schiano wants to hit a homerun, and LSU is putting the ball on a tee for him....almost since its only the coord, but I would say people would clearly know the real reason behind LSU defensive success if Schiano were here. I would be so proud of Les and LSU if Schiano goes down.

Well, add me to the "skeptical of the source of the rumor but would be elated if it came true" line.

Line is getting pretty damned long I think.

He knows defense and gets the most out of his players. Recruits south Fla well too.

Isn't this the guy who's an enormous a-hole? Hence his getting run in Tampa.

He has 1 year of experience as a DC, his teams at Rutgers that were so good on defense were when Robb Smith was his DC, who just took Arkansas' terrible defense to top 10 in the country in his first year. I'm not sure I'd want Schiano other than for the name.

I also don't see him taking anything but a HC job.

Do. Not. Want.

A Word Class a-hole

Schiano tried to kick Dexter Jackson (former Buc and Super Bowl MVP) out of practice

Schiano Men Destroyed Tampa Bay

Of course, don't ever forget this.

Not going to get overly excited, but this would be a superior hire to Pendergast (which I strongly favored). Southern recruiting would be an issue, of course, but 5 years position coach in CFB (before going to the NFL), then 2 as DC at Miami (good enough to get him the job at Rutgers), then HC at Rutgers for 11 seasons - I refuse to believe he can't recruit - he'll just need Frank and others to introduce him to all the Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas HS coaches.

On the other hand, he was a very hot HC property a couple of years ago and is not yet 50. We can't wink-wink, nudge-nudge, to Frank Wilson, Cam Cameron AND Schiano that they might be the HC when Les retires, now, can we?

But, beyond a homerun hire - might be outkicking our coverage.

The problem will be money - we refused to bid for Chavis - Schiano made HC money at Rutgers and the NFL - while he might understand the economic realities of it, he might also balk at moving to Baton Rouge for $750k.

Schiano was at Rutgers from 2001-2011

This is from Robb Smith's bio from Arky's website:

quote:

Prior to 2012, Smith served in various capacities on the Rutgers staff including special teams coordinator and linebackers coach in 2011, special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach in 2010 and special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach in 2009.

So you are not just wrong, but hilariously wrong FYI.

Because he broke Federal law by leaking the details of Josh Freeman's medical condition and drug situation, likely did the same thing at Rutgers, destroyed two NFL organizations, one of which he wasn't even employed at, he would likely undermine Miles and weaken the team. Nothing short of a disaster hire, in my opinion. These are all the reasons why the guy hasn't gotten a gig doing anything else since the Glazer's kicked his arse to the curb.

There is zero chance of this happening so I am giving this no more thought.

Ridiculous.

Maybe, but how did you assume this second point from the first point?
