Contract and Buyout

$2,800,000/year plus an additional $200,000/year for assistants.

$5,000,000 bonus in place if UH joins Big 12. $2,500,000 buyout until 2/28/17. UH's Board of Regents approved their indoor facility, so the buyout remains at $2,500,000 until 2/28/17.

Let's say he gets at minimum the same financial leeway that Les got.

His current salary would double
The available money for assistants would double.

Keep in mind that if LSU got him they would give him full autonomy over the staff and likely even increase available assistant salaries.

If you are Tom Herman, there no way you dont leave UH.

I don't think people are concerned about him choosing to stay at UH over LSU. I think people are concerned with him choosing to go to UT, ND, or USC over LSU.

Depends on how things go with Texas the rest of the year also.

If they don't make the big 12, it'll be a lot easier

His current contract isn't really relevant as he's getting a large raise from UH if he wants to stay there. The question is how much UH can afford to give him

Even still, UH would have to put up at least another 7 mil a year for staffing.

Essentially this all boils down to UT.

not only the money, and freedom in hiring. Also recruiting facilities, and resources. And the move to Baton Rouge would be minimal.

I think he has a Big 12 kicker. If they join the big 12 he gets a big bump.

It's not just what they are willing to give him but what will they pay a staff. He never planned to stay there it's that simple

His large raise at UH is solely dependent on entering the big 12. A standard raise without a conference change would be peanuts to what LSU could offer, especially for assistants.

If they make the big 12 then it gets much more interesting.

I agree.. this guy has another dozen or so families depending on him.. doubling his coaches salaries is a big life style change and come up for them

Then he is stuck at a program with subpar facilities compared to the rest of the league. And is now trying to build a program in the middle of the Big12. Also with likely still less money than he could have at LSU.

Right, but if he theoretically decides he loves UH and wants to stay there, he's still getting a new contract from them and a big raise with it. There's no way he's just going to keep his current contract with how this will play out. Assuming UH doesn't melt down on the field the worst case scenario for him is he stays at UH and gets an extension and a raise (and I'm sure they keep that Big 12 clause in there too)

The question is if UH can play with the big boys as far as money goes for him and his staff

I think it's all about UT and his teams playoff hunt.

We are all Strong and Petrino fans this year.

UT, yes. ND, no. ND is not firing Brian Kelly. He is not even on the hot seat. U$C? Maybe. We know Helton's days are numbered, but I'd see U$C going after others before Herman. And he doesn't strike me as a guy who'd pick the left coast over anywhere in the south where he has tons of ties now.

LSU fans will be watching the Red River rivalry with some interest this year.

The playoff system makes the LSU job less appealing IMO. Easier road to championships in other conferences which equals less pressure but the same money. LSU needs someone that wants a challenge and wants to be here.

It's still peanuts regardless. Don't sit there and think LSU can't shell out just as much money as anyone else, and given the fervor TAF and the LSU admin has for the coaching change it says to me that money is likely no object in this matter.

LSU has the highest paid staff in the country and last year had the two highest paid assistants in the country.

You think UH is willing to do that? I dont think so.
