I think the biggest obstacle to hiring Herman could be firstly the Big 12 conference expansion. USC would be the second biggest obstacle.

Exactly. I would say if Texas keeps Strong after this year we will be ok, for the simple fact that he seems to want to be in Texas. Baton Rouge isnt that far from Houston. USC not even close

Major applewhire will get the UH job if Herman leaves. They will still be in great shape. I think that makes it easier for Herman to come. If the LSU brass handles it the right way and let's Herman play his season it will be a home run.

UH has a high probability of a playoff berth and I don't see Herman making any kind of move/decision that could affect that

I think their ride stops with Louisville

That link is outdated. He signed a new contract with a raise last December:
LINK

$2,800,000/year plus an additional $200,000/year for assistants.

$5,000,000 bonus in place if UH joins Big 12. $2,500,000 buyout until 2/28/17. UH's Board of Regents approved their indoor facility, so the buyout remains at $2,500,000 until 2/28/17.

I don't think it does either. It would be very dumb from the standpoint of UT/Baylor/Tech

I would throw in Oklahoma, too. Half their team is from Texas and a lot of them are from the Houston area. Bringing in UH to the Big12 is a big time bad decision on the part of Texas area teams. I just don't see this happening.

I don't think UT will be open. The Big12 is a dumpster fire and I think the Longhorns will win a lot of games. Should be a good measuring stick this weekend against Oklahoma St.

If you are Tom Herman, there no way you dont leave UH.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, just that a move won't even be considered by him until after his team is eliminated from the playoff.

Waiting is his best move right now to see who the bidders are going to be.

My article came out after yours...

What? Maybe I'm missing something since I'm not a member of the Houston Chronicle and can't read it. But he definitely gets more than $1.35 million right now. Signed a new deal in December 2015.

As another poster pointed out though, UH has been dumping money into the program and isnt getting revenue in return. If they dont get into the Big12 idk how LSU doesnt get Herman.

This is where being the first to the market has an advantage. Others will wait, and Herman may risk losing a great opportunity just for the sake of trying to have options. LSU should act like they plan to have it tied up before everyone else starts firing, and not wait for someone to see all options and hope they "pick" LSU.

Time to play poker and force some action.

I believe this is a myth. His bio shows him to be moving up the coaching ranks whether the job takes him to Texas, Iowa, Ohio or any other state. He was a GA at UT...nothing more. I don't see the UT pull other than money and prestige. LSU brings both to the table, too.

He's not going to USC or ND.

Texas is only threat to LSU....and I like our chances.

This is interesting....he seems to have had A&M as his target, not UT.

Herman was interested in A&M not UT.

Houston's football program doesn't make any money because they have a 40,000 seat stadium. So can Joe Fat Cat booster pony up big bucks to pay the HC and his staff and pay to have an additional 30K seats added on, if that is even practical? His coaches being poached: that is exactly why Head Hawg left Whisky because he could not get the administration to pay his assistants comparable money as schools around the country are paying. Re USCw, isn't the HC there only been there a yr? Firing him would mean 2 HC in less than a yr, 3-4 in the past 5-6? And with the Rams now there, USCw has lost a lot of its glitter. Shite arse facilities in a shite arse part of town.

There's a few coaches we need to keep around.
Aranda being the main one.
