If UT keeps winning it wont matter. He isnt going to turn down 6-7 mil just in hopes that UT fires Strong the following year.

Herman went to college in Southern California, and grew up there, though he was born in Ohio. I've heard that he and his wife don't want to raise kids in California, but I've not seen that substantiated so I don't know if it's true or not.

USC's leadership completely mismanaged the football program before, during and after the sanctions that left it crippled.

I keep hearing that new Trojan AD Lynn Swann (yes, that Lynn Swann) is going for a home run hire if Helton flames out this season.

Herman would be a home run hire, IMHO.

Comparing LSU's program to USC's program in terms of what a coach would prefer is largely subjective.

You as fans of LSU I'm sure believe that everything about what LSU has to offer is better. USC fans likely believe the converse is true.

As somebody mentioned earlier, he may have ND and TX to consider as well, so it's all going to be about what is the best choice for him...

...and a shedload of money.

LSU is a great gig. Don't think I don't believe that.

LSU is in good recruiting territory, but there are other programs in even better talent rich areas.

What was LSU football before Saban?

Outside of the 90s, LSU was doing fine. Dinardo was starting to build the fence back around La, but didn't last long enough to see the fruits of his recruiting labor.

The point is, Cal is there. There is no "Cal" for LSU to compete with here. And then UCLA

Cal is "there" and that's about it. Cal hasn't ever beat SC consistantly for recruits

Between cost of living and taxes, LSU could pay Herman a third less than USC and he would still take home more money.

i hope it is. this board has a ton of idiots on it but the reality is USC and LSU are both top 5 jobs. for different reasons, but in the end its like choosing which Victorias Secret model to bang.

And you are basing this on what?

They are basing it on the strong emotional desire to get what they want.

I love LSU and I want Herman bad but y'all gotta get real in this thread... the biggest thing working against LSU as a landing spot for coaches is BR. If you've never lived outside of the state you wouldn't understand.

Why in God's name would he pick Louisiana over Southern California?

That's a bit of an overstatement.

Like others said, Nick lives in Tuscaloosa. Urban went from Gainesville, a craphole, to Columbus, not exactly the Riviera.

This can't be true. I was led to believe Baton Rouge was one of the top places on the planet to live.

I didn't say there were not reasons. I'm just saying that to state that BR is the biggest thing working against LSU is an overstatement.
