I personally think that he is floating his name for a raise, but wanted to hear from Southern Miss fans on his time there.

They say he has been unhappy at UNC. But who knows.

"Sources tell FootballScoop that Whit Babcock considers Larry Fedora a strong candidate at Virginia Tech. We are also of the understanding that Rich Rodriguez will not be a candidate for this position."

UNC would definitely backfill with Arky State headcoach Blake Anderson if they lost Fedora. He was Robin to his Batman for years.

I think Fedora desperately wants out of Chapel Hill. Rumors swirling that he had thrown his hat in the ring at USC, too. He's not a bad backup option if Tanner misses on Herman and Smart.

He's finally realized that there is only so much a football coach can do at UNC.

UNC is like 7-1 though.

Fedora to VT is a lateral move, as is the move to USC. He can win much easier in the ACC Coastal than in the SEC.

Makes zero sense for Fedora to move to VT.

That said, Fedora is flashy guy and I could see him spurning UNC at some point for a major school in a major city.

Remember also that UNC is about to get some serious sanctions leveled against them for the academic fraud case that is ongoing.

Wasn't that settled like 5 years ago?.

Fedora leaving makes no sense, he just overhauled his coaching staff and is having a huge year. Only way he leaves there is if UNC pushes him out(doesn't give him an extension) because they think Chizik is their guy

He should wait for Texas to open.

Dafuq?

There is no indication whatsoever that this would go down at UNC.

Fedora is a great offensive coach who's benefitting tremendously from having Chiz as his D coordinator. That being said, he was a great coach at USM, especially game plans and motivating players.

My main concern about him would be recruiting because he's relied heavily on JUCO transfers at both USM and UNC. I'm not sure you can do that and be consistent contender.

Meh.....wouldn't surprise me if that is an agent name push for a raise. There will be many of those that start occurring over the next couple of weeks. Same thing as any year just another year.

For those that know the area around VT and NC better than I do, is there a big difference between the schools for why he would want to go from NC to VT?

I think the South Carolina stuff is just smoke screen for Kirby Smart to be named the head coach after the conference title game.

VT is obviously a more proven program but UNC has just as much if not more potential

Didn't Beamer very nearly make the opposite move at one point?

I think so.

Seems like an odd move.

UNC is and always will be a basketball school.

For years North Carolina's elite HS players have chosen to go out of state. NC doesn't produce elite football talent at the level of many other southern states.

VT is football first and it's been that way since Beamer arrived.

VT recruits the talent rich Tidewater area exceptionally well and UVA is not that tough to recruit against for the most part.

Yes in 2000, and even shook on it. ON the flight back to Blacksburg he changed his mind and got a big raise.

So, the joke for a long time in the mid-Atlantic is that they were Beamered...this could be the opposite.
