Spot on. But those guys never spent time in NAIA so they are obviously better

I can't stand when people get disparaged over their journey when the end result is being an overwhelming success.

Don't play dumb for no reason. He has a track record now in college so you go off that.

Chad Morris was hired b/c of his run as Clemson's OC, though.

And?

I’m just showing how silly the “NAIA record matters because it shows he wins at every level” is.

Then don’t play dumb when people say claiming his record of over 100 wins is idiotic m

NAIA is probably worse than Texas 6a football

I don’t think anyone through Brian Kelly was available when LSU hired him.

Hell they still had an outside shot at the playoff when he took the job

He has 3 years of P5 coaching experience. That obviously isn’t everything, but I also don’t put a ton of stock in his NAIA head coaching experience from 15 years ago.

Why? Penix was a transfer. He won't be able to get comparable transfers at Alabama?

Maybe he gets another Penix or a Joe Burrow in the transfer portal. My point was that his last few years he had Penix at QB and was elite.

Maybe he gets one. I said unlikely to get another Penix... not impossible. Unlikely.

There are Penix level QBs in almost every transfer portal

From other threads trying to make the same point

Big James Franklin fan?

Has Franklin even been to the playoffs?

I want to hear these mythical superior options with more success.

I mean KD even has had more success than Lanning and Sark (who I might add, both only had success with their own transfer QBs, so that argument is moot) with H2H dominance over both

ETA : remove the guys who either declined or won't leave...Kirby, Dabo, Kelly, Riley, Day, Sark, Lanning...who even has a playoff appearance to get in the conversation? Fickell? Dykes?

KD's 1 playoff victory puts him pretty high up there in terms of active coaches, with Saban retiring.

DeBoer appears to be a really good coach, and may be a great one. For a Wisconsin or UCLA level program he would be an "amazing" hire. For Alabama he's the bare minimum that should be expected. Could you imagine them hiring a coach with just a little less success than DeBoer? Maybe a Jed Fisch or Lance Leipold? Bama fans would riot.

not every coach is lucky enough to spend his early years at a SEC or P5 job.

And yet they still decided to go and get a coach that wasn’t. There are numerous out there that do have that experience. And the ones that they were interested in all said no. Poor guys.

4 years, don't forget about the 3-3 job he did at Fresno State during Covid.

Fresno State isn’t P5

He has 1 season as the Indiana OC, and 2 as the Washington HC. That’s all of his P5 coaching experience.

Again, that’s not saying that he can’t be successful, but that’s pretty limited coaching experience at the highest level of the game.

Without the success.

What coaches with SEC experience who were attainable have a playoff win as a HC?

He really wasn’t. The Boise dominance began to slip for the first time under his leadership.

Sure, but that doesn't mean they can sign anyone, and if you think they can, your Brian Daboll pick really shows your grounding in reality

They already had at least 2 coaches say no before DeBoer, and you're going to pretend they can literally just sign anyone?
