I've done a lot of traveling in S. Florida. It's just not a cultural fit for me, and I'm guessing, a lot of others like me. And I'm not a redneck, FWIW, it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with that. I'd probably not live there either. My point is that South Florida isn't a monolithic bloc. It's extremely diverse in terms of it's cultures and vibes. Coconut Grove, Downtown Miami and Homestead are all within 20 miles of one another and might as well be in different solar systems.

I have never been a fan of South Florida. It's a weird place and the people there generally disgust me when I've been. It's obviously attractive to some people but I would live in a place like Auburn, Oxford or Fayetteville 10/10 if the money was the same

Yeah and I'm not going to try and argue those places are objectively better than Miami, I know that'd be weird. But being king in a nice small or medium sized college city certainly has an appeal.

There is just something particularly hollow about South Florida for me.

I dunno, you could pretty easily argue Oxford is better.

I mean, the rest of the argument went out the window when he threw in Fayetteville, which is basically America's taint, but Oxford is nice.

Northwest Arkansas is pretty nice IMO but to each his own. I'm not really trying to argue anything other than living in Miami isn't for everyone

Certainly.

Though if I could find a way to eject Arkansas from the US I would. And Ohio and possibly Pennsylvania. Everyone else can stay.

didn't miami talk to mullen last time there was an opening and dismiss him as a candidate because they absolutely hated him? 'acts like he invented football' i think is the quote that came out from miami after the interview.

Some of you have to be kidding. Miami, FL is an absolute paradise compared to Starkville, MS.

He's a multi-millionaire. The man is not going to be living in the city slums with a bunch of Cuban dissidents sharing a freshly beheaded chicken every night.

He'll live in the burbs, he'll get to attend a Scientology church, and he won't be in Starkville, MS.

My sister lived in Miami for about three years and I visited her often. I really dislike Miami and would hate to live there. That being said, I would hate to live in Starkville even more. Yes, I've been there as well. Horrible place.

They wanted him last time but didn't want to match what MSU paid him.

nah. Dan Mullen Not Offered Job At Miami Because of His Ego says, quoting the Miami Herald:
quote:

And UM was turned off by Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen’s big ego, with one trustee saying he acts like he invented the game

can't find anything that says they wanted him.

What I'm telling you is that they couldn't afford him.

That was then. Apparently, the attitude has changed. They have gone through coaches like corn through a goose. Apparently, they are willing to pay what it takes to get who they want. Not saying it's Mullen but the 4'6" Shalala is gone. She didn't give two shits about sports back when Mullen was considered before

I can't imagine living in Starkville. It's like a prison sentence.

Old Waverly, decent to very good restaurants, he already has a very nice home, he is hero in a small town. Starkville does not have opera or Broadway Shows or an airport hub, so yeah - prison.

What's funny is 2 pages of discussion on the cities these schools are located. CFB coaches work like 16 hour days so it really doesn't matter.
