I watched some Pitt film. This system seems to lack a definite identity. I don't see it translating to the SEC. Some spread stuff, but a lot of it looks like our current system.

Some Spread
Some I Form
Even some Wing-T/Flex Bone
No Zone Read
Does not look dual threat QB based. Makes me wonder if there is any sauce behind Dellinger's report.

Pittsburgh 2016 but,

Similar system at NC State 2014

UPDATE
Just watched all offensive plays Pitt v Clemson

- Creative formations and shifts
- Zone read does not use qb legs, but instead fakes the zone then shuttle passes/pitch to TE/HB under neath.
- played fairly well in upset game vs Clemson, in large part due to Clemson poor run defense

However
- The passing attack is very deficient. A good bit of the passing game came from repeated forward laterals (shuttle pitches) to backs and tight ends, which technically counts as a pass. Very Little vertical concepts. Not much going on in terms of crosses, slants, etc. Some attempt to throw bubbles which were blown up. Lots of roll outs.

- Lots of bells and whistles pre-snap (not much happens after the snap). Though there is innovation in formations and pre-snap shifts, actual play selection leaves a bit to be desired, mostly due to under developed passing concepts.

-Could be something to build off of. I question whether this system fits the SEC, or whether it is a meaningful departure from what LSU, Arkansas, Florida, or Georgia already does.

Conclusion: I don't question whether Dellinger's sources have fed him Canada's name, I would be surprised to find that reports of his candidacy is anything more than a smoke screen, with very little "sauce."

Jacoby Brissett was light years better at NCSU under Canada than he was at UF. At Wisky, we ran a successful offense under Bilema. Even had a Doak Walker award winner. My guess is that Canada is just making the most out of the talent he had at Pitt. He does run a ton of misdirection which is something we haven't seen under Miles.

Very ignorant statement

Eta: you realize Helfrich, Kiffin, and Briles were all fired as well, right? I suppose all of them aren't worthy of consideration either.

Idk
But his offense is 1-1 against SEC play
With the one win being at Alabama
So bring him to bayou!

I was just linking this. My favorite part was:

quote:

“We run the same plays over and over, just with different variations, from different formations,” he said. “People always ask, ‘What kind of offense do you have?’ An offense that scores points. That’s what I tell them.”

I love that the guy understands TOP and how important a power running game is to winning.

In other words, he runs what works based on what his QB can learn, perfect and do well.

Sign him up, make the call to Bay St. Louis and let's get this thing going!

(Hopefully he can recruit some Pennsylvania OL's to LSU in the process)

I'm watching the Clemson game right now. I'm no Xs and Os guy, but a few things I've noticed:

He does A TON of shifting at the line of scrimmage. Some hurry up.

A lot of roll outs.

There's a lot of read options. The QB can hand it off to a RB, WR, or keep it. Their QB hasn't run much, but he has the option.

They scored on this beautiful pass play that at first looked like a designed QB run up the middle.

Some shovel passes.

A lot of different stuff.

It's the power spread, and it's a good fit for LSU's personnel.

Not really the same situation. O had never proven himself since his ole miss failure. Kiffin and Canada have proven they are good OCs after their firings. Also worth mentioning Canada firing was a mistake and kiffin firing was as HC. Briles, of whom i am not a fan, was fired for non performance related reasons.

I see zone read concepts but QB never pulls and runs. Lot of shuttle passes after zone reads.
