Urban ran that play to A Hernandez for two years with great success. It's just a read , mich like diving the RB and handing off out of the same formation is a read. Canada chooses to use this as the base read instead of the dive. It's more deceptive and allows the QB and other back to get wider faster than the dive (which requires and mesh between the QB and RB). I am not saying one is better than the other, but there is a reason for it. The mesh is more likely to result in a turnover in my opinion. Poorly executed mesh results in fumbles. This is more likely to lead to an incomplete as oppose to an interception (which can occur , but is probably statistically less likely ).

It's a read play with an option/keeper depending on the DE key. Running that set you can have multiple variations to that play to include other passes besides just the shovel. They run it so much because end stays on the pitch and the shovel is there. Bruce Arians mixes in a bunch of those concepts.

That play was set up by a 70 yd interception return (I think).

No, it wasn't. Pitt stopped Clemson on 4th and short in Pitt territory.

Plays like that were far an in between, much like our current passing attack.

Then how did they get over 300 yds passing? We did that once all season, in our final game.

As I said in previous posts, 10+ plays were shuttle passes, including the first TD. There was not a lot of "down field" production. I watched this film last night. Just posting what I saw.

I like the play. Just saying that it skews passing efficiency stats. It was a run a lot.

Canada's Favorite Pass Play
Neither is shooting for the moon when you realize you can't even take flight.

The point is to hamper expectations.

Anyone who thinks we can just hire a great OC and immediately with championships is fricking delusional.

Well hell, call Cam back. lol

Two things; 1. Didn't they drub Clemson? 2. That doesn't mean they do if EVERY game.

Seriously? Are you a football guy? Just curious. ALLLL film is now VIDEO. The term "video" these days speaks more to the intent of the viewer, not what is actually viewed. When watching FILM, you analyse. You skip/ignore all commentary and watch plays. I saw every offensive play "on film". I was able to determine what was run, formations, down and distance, frequency of play calling, and tendencies. Do you think there is a magical video out there, that would show discredit what I saw? Its okay if you disagree with me. But I didnt just show up here based on what I read. I went and watched THE FILMMM myself.

Sure it does. His short yardage play calling is really good and his offense avg. 15 yds/completion. Not sure that his offense would work in the SEC but he has hung some points up against good teams. He was more run heavy (63%) this past season but they may have more to do with personnel and strengths. He was more balanced (57% run) with Brissett in 2015 running almost 150 more plays (including bowl game which Pitt hasn't played yet).

His system with the QBs we have on sidelines would be dangerous. I would like to see Scott and Mac taking snaps in this system.

Will this offense attract top QBs? Pocket passers or Dual Threats. I don't see anything that would tempt either

In what way?

The NCAA formula is: [ { (8.4 * yards) + (330 * touchdowns) - (200 * interceptions) + (100 * completions) } / attempts ]. Or has it changed?

So if hypothetically that one play consistently gets a pass completion 75% of the time with an average of 4 yards per completion, that play results in a passing efficiency rating of 100.2 ... which is lower than Pitt's actual efficiency rating of 158.07.

So are you suggesting that their offense might actually be better if they stopped using this play so much?

If they do use it 10 times per game, and we all know shovel passes are generally short yardage plays, then how is it that Pitt averages more yards per passing attempt than all but 13 colleges? They average more yards per attempt than 115 other major football programs, which also includes more than any SEC school.

He has had 3 consecutive 2600 yard passers throwing 20+ TDs while avg. 397 yards rushing. He helped get Brissett drafted by New England.

I'm sure we will be fine.

Oh, you mean that pass play that Clemson (a CFP team) absolutely could not stop?
