So this is contradicting Grateful Tiger...... not saying I don't believe that either of you have sources. It will be interesting to see whose sources are "correct" though.

Maybe Grateful Tiger has an update...

This story has been the consensus with a lot of people including that Texas board. I'm starting to believe.

Hey put me down for that $100 bet. I live close to Cypress, TX so it will be easy for us to settle up. This way if you are right, then it will be the best $100 I lost and if you are wrong then I still win.

Just so we are clear, you are saying Herman will sign a 5 year $5.2 M contract and keep Aranda. And this will happen at the end of the season before Feb 2017.

Maybe we can get a bunch of people in on this bet and you can really clean up.

I have 5 at my place of work as of yesterday, on a handshake, think im gonna cap at 5 because im a man of my word, $500 is about my limit haha. But yes I work with people with very high connections in Houston, and I have clients that are large TAF donors. The bets that I made gave me leway with money in contract, Range was 4.7-5.3.. There is an offer on the table and basically a handshake agreement. So, idk what to tell yah.. Unless something drastically changes, ive been told he is ours...

Heck, man, you are making it harder to collect. Just stipulate that if Herman is the coach at LSU next year, you collect the $100.

The thing about this whole "handshake agreement" that bothers me is it means absolutely nothing. From a leverage standpoint, Herman's representation knows it's out there that he would jump at TX, which gives him almost zero leverage. He can float this "handshake agreement", or even better actually have one in fact, in order to get Texas to offer a ridiculous amount. It is very smart and flips the leverage to Herman's advantage.

But of course I'm just a pessimist because good things don't work out for LSU very often goddammit. Between Bo Rein and Saban not having scratched his NFL itch, we're hard luck with this stuff.

I'll add, if we did have a handshake agreement it would make no sense whatsoever for the President of the university to come out and talk about "the coach at Houston" in the context of being the flavor of the week. You don't talk negatively like that about your future coach.

Here is the post from Grateful Tiger

"re: Would Herman stay at UH?Posted on 10/7/16 at 3:47 pm to TigerGrad2011

As much as I hate to say this and I never pretend to be an insider, it's UH or Texas for Herman. Couldn't possibly get a closer source. LSU has zero chance to land him as of now.

Downvote away, i'm pissed too.

Not trying to doubt you but; you are softening on your statement, to an offer/handshake deal. And now it's "unless something drastically changes". No offense but something always drastically changes, just look at Fisher last year.

So $4.7 - $5.3 M for 5 yr and keeping Aranda, I will still take some of that action.

I thought the same thing, Texas is his dream job as said by the coach at Tulsa that he coached with.. However the only thing that would have kept him at Houston any longer was the $5 million dollar bonus he got from joining the Big 12, that will not happen now.. and I'm not so sure he would want to go into Texas with all the mess thats going on there.. I think my buddy is right and I bet some serious coin on it.. Ive learned the hard way not to doubt the guy again..

Everybody’s talking about the coach at Houston. Apparently he’s a very good coach. Houston could drop six in a row.

They’re talking about other coaches. I will have as much of a role in it as I need to. If it requires me recruiting a coach, I will.

This kind of signals to me that: 1. He surely didn't see Herman as a definite at that time; and 2. Perhaps Herman is not their top choice and they know they have someone else lined up.

Man, reading that article makes me dislike our President ever more.

"I remember in 1999, I was at a Big Ten meeting. I was with the president of Wisconsin. The Big Ten agreed to put the breaks on all of this spending. Everybody got into a huddle and agreed to do it together collectively. It took about eight months until somebody hired a big-name coach and just blew open the treasure chest again."

Uh, that's good, since what you described is collusion and illegal.

Dave Aranda contract:

He must pay 50 percent of his remaining salary if he leaves for a non-head coaching job in the Southeastern Conference or “a Football Bowl Subdivision football program within a 500 miles radius of LSU.

There's a reason it's at 500 miles. How far away is Austin? And there's a reason we got Aranda. I cant emphasize how important it was for Houston to not make big12. Let's hope Texas keeps kicking themselves in the foot. Heirbstreet knows what's going on hence him calling Texas a "cesspool".

i will throw in $100 towards the bet, but ONLY if Texas becomes available and Herman has to choose between the two.

Im all in on Texas. For every "expert" who thinks he will take LSU, ill show you 3 that believe he will take Texas
