You guys are asking the wrong questions.

The only question that should exist is who is the best coach that LSU can get?

I feel like I've been shouting that question.

The very likely answer is Larry Fedora, if you're throwing out Orgeron. No fricking thanks. After Jimbo and Herman, the field is putrid, and the way this has shaken out those two seem to have their plans made.

Let's say O is named next Thurs, then this turns into a Coach Chavis debacle in BR with Lane! That would be a great move with the media! Lane will be center of attention and speculation! And Saban will flip his lid.

Coach O, at 7-0, should get the job ONLY if Tom Herman and Jimbo turn it down.

Losing close to Alabama doesn't do it for me. Les lost close to Alabama in 2012 and 2014 (in TS).

Larry Fedora,

Freakin no thanks to this; give me Herman, Jimbo, or Kelley; but after that I give coach O a shot if he continues success. Larry freakin Fedora, no thanks. I'd rather punt with O for 2-3 years and try again.

Gordy and Hanagriff were saying last night about how O is doing everything right as far as cultivating the people who matter as far as influencing the decision. Transparency with the administration and the press, reaching out to boosters and former players. He spoke to the New Orleans Quarterback Club this week. They said he was the first LSU HC to do that since 1977.

All of the writing for this was on the wall. He is obviously aware of politics and hitting every front he can to gain support.

Alleva had to have known this was a possibility with Coach O; has basically backed himself into a corner if coach O continues success.

His supporters are now lobbying for success to be defined in relative terms - in which 1 or 2 losses would still not be cause to look elsewhere.

Nepotism has consequences. If you are more interested in hiring "one of your own" than finding the next great football mind you can easily find yourself sucking for years. Some of the best programs in the country (USC, Michigan, Nebraska, Alabama, Notre Dame...) have made this mistake and suffered years of sub-optimal football as a result. Can we please just short circuit the learning curve and look for a great football coach instead of a great (local) politician.

If he beats Alabama he's going to be the coach, IMO.

Probably even if we lose to aTm and don't win the West.

He's playing a masterful PR game, I have no doubt the higher ups are loving all of the access they're getting right now, the hiring of Ponamsky was mostly about pointing him in the direction of who's arse he needed to kiss.

I am amazed at the buffoons have allowed themselves to be duped. This is surreal. It started out "If Coach O wins out". Now we will probably end up losing to Bama, and losing to Texas A&M, but excuses will be made for Coach O (nobody could beat Bama this year, A&M on short rest isn't his fault) and he will be hired anyway.

Honestly, I'm starting to get depressed. After years of knowing good and well LSU was underachieving with that clown Miles, he finally gets canned and I can enjoy LSU football again. Well, that lasted a grand total of 3 games because the reality is, unless LSU starts losing, we're going to get Ed Orgeron. No matter that he has done absolutely nothing to prove he can get the LSU football program back to the level of being a SEC and national championship contender year in and year out. He wins, we're stuck. So as much as I want LSU to stick it to Alabama, I can't really enjoy it because it's basically a death sentence for the program. And for those of you saying, oh just give him a 2-3 year contract to see what he can do. Are you kidding me? With all the arse kissing he's doing and the good ol boy mentality of this state, do you really think it will be easy to get rid of Ed O if he doesn't put the program back on track? It will be 10 times harder to get rid of him, he will be entrenched for years. And guess what, if that does happen, and years from now he finally is gone, do you think LSU will be in the position they are in now, with unlimited potential to hire a great, championship level coach? Hell no, it will be right back to picking from among the scraps, which is what hiring Coach O is. I really can't believe there is not some voice of reason in leadership that can put a stop to this insanity, but it looks like that's not going to happen and LSU is going to take the dive off the cliff. SMH.
