I am still not sure what to think of this. Saban's credibility would be laughable if he left.

If he just came out and said that they made him an offer he couldn't refuse and was honest about it instead of going all coach speak on it he might survive it again.

Something along the lines of "Would YOU turn down that kind of money if you knew you only had a few years left to earn it for your family?" Because ultimately that's what it comes down to.

Who the hell is chatsports? Is there no individual connected to this story?

You've never heard of chatsports? They are only the most reliable source of insider sports news ever. This is totally something that everybody should base getting their hopes up on. So much smoke. I bet all the smoke is from that heat Saban was feeling

Ok, so if Saban was a greedy, disloyal scumbag taking an immoral and ridiculous contract offer that was going to "ruin college football" when he left Miami for Alabama how do you explain this offer? I guess getting paid a gauranteed $10 million a year for 10 years is no big deal because Texas is just that great and desirable of a job?

I have to give it to some of you. You want Saban away from Alabama so bad that you've gone from outrage over Saban's initial $4 million a year contract at Alabama to not even batting an eye at a gauranteed $10 million a year. I guess the "outrage" is all dependent on who is involved. How convenient.

Of course the outrage is selective - we only really hate Bama while we just dislike everyone else. So anything that hurts Bama the most is what we cheer for. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

You guys really are short sighted aren't you? Until someone else takes the job, Saban is absolutely in play at Austin. As for his credibility - I can't imagine that he's too worried about that since as others have mentioned, all he has to do is play the "Would YOU turn down $100M+ over the next ten years" to anyone who asked him. Besides, if he's "too old to start over somewhere else," then he's likely going to retire from whatever school he coaches for 2014, so what does it matter to him?

When he signed the extension last week, there was no opening at Texas. As of Sunday afternoon, there was.

If the leaks hadn't gotten out, then Mack wouldn't have shown his arse and dug in.

If Mack doesn't dig in, then he goes quietly at the beginning of the week, last week.

If Mack goes quietly last week, then there's no media circus.

If there's no media circus, then Saban doesn't have to sign the new extension.

If Saban doesn't sign the new extension, then it's likely because Sexton was negotiating a deal to Texas.

If they offer - Honest to God, paper on the table with numbers and lots of commas... He gone.

None of that makes sense.

There was no opening when the trustees spoke to Sexton several months ago. And Saban hasn't signed an extension yet.

If the leaks hadn't gotten out, then Mack wouldn't have shown his arse and dug in.

Mack was always gonna dig in against people who wanted him out before he wanted to go...leaks or no leaks.

quote:

If Mack goes quietly last week, then there's no media circus.

There was always gonna be a media circus around that job opening, especially if Saban's name is mentioned...no matter whether Mack goes quietly or not.

quote:

If there's no media circus, then Saban doesn't have to sign the new extension.

He never had to do anything. Saban never has to do anything he doesn't want to do. And again, he hasn't signed anything yet...the BOT hasn't approved it yet.

quote:

If Saban doesn't sign the new extension, then it's likely because Sexton was negotiating a deal to Texas.

If Saban doesn't "sign"...(you mean agree, because he hasn't "signed")..., it's because he didn't want to. Nick Saban always does what Nick Saban wants to and what's in his best interests.

quote:

If they offer - Honest to God, paper on the table with numbers and lots of commas... He gone.

If they were going to offer, they already would have. And they probably did.
Saban to Texas on Jan 2nd or 3rd is strategically timed to take all of the press and momentum away from LSU's massive committs day.

Book it.

Saban is still LSUssessed.
...or maybe it's the other way around-- based on all these posts. Just my opinion....

The part of this fairy tale i don't get is why evil scumbag saban won't initially do the deal unless mack steps down and signs off on it (presumably because he is so concerned about perception), and yet is willing to leave bama in the lurch after a new contract extension and saying numerous times that he is going to retire at Alabama, forever tainting his legacy. All this while knowing he is really going to go to Texas after the bowl game anyway. And what exactly is this heat he was supposed to have felt that prompted the delay? Heat from whom, and like there would be less heat later on? if anything the outcry would be greater. This whole story is pure fantasy that has been thrown out to chum the waters for the stupider sort of corndog.

Enough of this garbage already. There is more sign of Malzahn coming than there ever was for Saban.

NO quotes attributed to NS saying he was ever interested. Several from people close to him and finally the man himself saying he was staying at Bama.

There are people saying that Malzahn's dream job is Texas.

There are also rumors claiming he wants to be considered.

Saban has agreed to an extension. So has Gus. Yet Saban's means nothing and Gus is locked down?
