FWIW there is a "Candidate X" in play that is a major, major name. A&M has had quite a few folks reach out to them on the position who wouldn't normally be looking.

Is it "Big Game Bob"?

I have an extremely hard time believing that though there has been some internet chatter about it.

The other two big names I have read on message boards (and those are oh so trustworthy) are Chip Kelly and Jim Tressel.

I think both of those are fairly large pipe dreams as well.

There is also supposedly some chatter about an unnamed ACC coach (Dabo Swinney?) and an SEC coach (Dan Mullen?)

Charlie Strong would definitely be my choice. Good defensive mind, great recruiter and great motivator. A lot of energy and would probably fire up the fan base.

Strong and Mike London are probably my two favorite up-and-comers in the country. Hugh Freeze used to be the third.

After the Curly Hallman debacle, I will never trust a USM hire ever again which I know is irrational and not fair to Fedora.

There is a whole lot of moving pieces in the aggie search. The 4 listed are not the only candidates. In fact I don't think one of Byrnes favs is on the list but there is strong talk that he won't be staying next year. There is a group including some regents and some powerful ags pushing there own agenda.

Charlie Strong was the DC at Florida for a long time before he finally got his shot at Louisville.

He knows the SEC extremely well. Mature, down to earth Coach.

Me, if I'm Charlie Strong, I stay Louisville. No disrespect intended to A&M, but Louisville is mid, almost upper level job.

Better get someone who really is interested in motivating everyone because the SEC is rough on coaches.

I watched him plenty when he was at Okie Light.

He was their OC at one point and had Mike Gundy as his OC when he got the HC job. He was an offensive minded coach going into LSU.

You can be that and get a solid DC to run things.

Aggies, I'm hearing it's up to y'all whether or not we get Fedora. Any word on if they are going to offer him the job?

We're also hearing that Fedora was offered by UNC but A&M is his dream job and he's waiting on us to decide. How long will he wait, who knows. As far as whether or not we are going to offer him, I don't know. President Loftin has placed the gag order on everyone so there hasn't been much word one way or the other. Right now we're all guessing which is why you hear things like Bob Stoops thrown around

We have about a day to decide. Which sucks because we are still doing interviews.
