Too bad Chad Morris resigned with Clemson. Strong+Morris would be amazing. What other OCs are available should be hire Strong?

Kirby Smart is horrible. I suggest you stay away from him. Please.

I can't see the Aggies hiring a black coach (Sumlin). Next thing you know, they'll be allowing women to drive on campus.

Really then I guess Strong has two things working against him...

Don't like anyone on that list but KS - and he may not want the job. It's the same old BIG 12 mentality.

Get a defensive coach or your stay in the SEC will be miserable every day of every year forever.

The SEC's 2nd/3rd best team for the last 2 years has been headed by an offensive coach. You can absolutely be a great team with an offensive coach in the SEC.

But is there another Petrino available? I doubt it.

I'd say they should stick to the 3-4 mold, focus on the run game, and they'll be a 7 win team on the regular with potential for 10. They need to abandon their hurry up offense and spread...use it too much.

Honestly any of the four would be pretty good. I think Sumlin would be ok on defense with better talent and staff. He'd recruit Texas really well at aTm. I'm wary of his defense but I think he's got the Texas ties, offensive mind, and could get a good DC/better defensive talent at aTm.

Offensive/Defensive coach is an overrated criterion. "Kick arse recruiter" should be requirement 1-100 when choosing a coach.

Well, I will say no to Strong just because I really like the guy and I don't want another person with strong Florida ties in the SEC. But I do think he would be a great hire and by far the best out of that bunch.

I am not seeing the appeal of Fedora w/Zook other than some recruiting benefit but as DC in the SEC, I just don't see that working.

Seriously, Zook as a Coordinator would LOCK UP Texas with his ability to recruit.

Pump your brakes, sir. Texas is too large to lock up. Other players will get talent out of Texas. There's too much to go around.

Clearly the top candidate is Kirby Smart for them. He would recruit well enough because of his "Saban" ties.

Why the hell would you need Saban ties in Tejas? If you are the best kid in your position in Texas where do you want to play? Big12-8 or the SEC. A monkey should be able to recruit at TAMU. State is big enough to fill every SEC's roster with plenty left over.

I want a guy with HC experience and excellent ties to Texas recruiting.

Also, while I think he would be a solid hire, I think Fedora is getting a ton of flavor of the month love for USM beating Houston in the CUSA title game. Its not like he has really improved a whole bunch from Jeff Bower who left him a fairly stable program. Bower was 30-21 (7-5,7-5,9-5,7-6)in his last 4 years while Fedora is 33-19(7-6,7-6,8-5,10-2). Plus Fedora has losses this year to UAB (3-9) and Marshall (6-6). He has just as many chinks in his armor as Sumlin, if not more.

Not on your list, but if aTm hasn't at least put in a call to see how much $$$ it would take to get Gary Patterson away from TCU, IHMO they're nuts.

Patterson is tied in with Ft Worth/TCU oil money. He is making as much in O&G revenue as he does in salary with estimates at the total around $7 mill per year.

It would probably be easier to get Saban.

FWIW there is a "Candidate X" in play that is a major, major name. A&M has had quite a few folks reach out to them on the position who wouldn't normally be looking.
