Jack Del Rio. A&M needs to learn how to play proper defense.

Unrelated note: wouldn't it be great to have Strong and Smart on your coaching staff if only just for the names?

I'd want someone named Long..........for the ladies.

Lord, I hope they don't get Strong. That will be bad news for the other SEC schools.

The A & M job is one that is very attractive now being in the SEC and in the state of TX. It doesn't get any better than that as far as recruiting.

would be Mike London, Charlie Strong, then Kevin Sumlin.

Prayers sent.

I'm not sure why people are high on this guy. Do you really think that BS offense would work against a defense that disguised its coverages? i.e. the ENTIRE SEC.

USM was really teh first team they played that disguised where the blitz was coming from, whether they were in man or zone. The other teams on the schedule were just overwhelmed by the hurry up.

plus, 5-7 without Keenum. Can you say Curley Hallman, jr. ?

I'm not sold on Smart just bc he's a Saban guy. See: Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp

Oh, I'm not either. But I'd take him over fricking Sumlin and I'm not 100% sold on Fedora either.

After seeing muschamp and dooley this year, id be a little hesistant to go after a saban coaching tree prospect without seeing him as a head coach somewhere else.

id say fedora or strong are much better choices than the other two.

Hell, we saw Dooley suck as ahead coach and still thought it would be a good idea to hire him.

Within 250 miles of A&M is arguably the most fertile recruiting ground in the country. By far. Within 250 miles you have Houston, D/FW, Austin, San Antonio, East Texas, the Gulf Coast of Texas, and Western Louisiana which comprises over 20 million people in a region that LOVES football. That region drives Texas, OU, LSU, OSU, as well as others. It's inexplicable that A&M has struggled for the last decade considering the size of the school and resources, as well as the fact it is the closest major player to Houston. It isn't exactly a stretch to say that being able to come in there as the only SEC school in Texas is a huge opportunity.

You guys should be excited about this list. This is a good set of candidates.

I'd vote Strong.

Whatever. I'll gladly the setup Texas has over A&M and never think twice about it. I'd also much be in the position of the schools I mentioned earlier.

Fedora would be at the top of the list.

Smart at the bottom. The guy has no head coaching experience. Plus look at other assistant coaches that were under Saban.

Fisher - meh
Boom - meh
Dooley - meh

One of those has never been a head coach before and has only worked for basically 1 HC in his career. So I would probably stay away from him.

It all boils down to coaching. You can recruit top 5-10 classes all day, every day. All year, every year. But if you don't have a direction for the program, you're going to suck (UTexas).

Charlie Strong-Louisville coach that was Meyer's DC at Florida. Heavy SEC ties and has done a solid job turning around a disaster at Louisville. Also was a GA at A&M in the '80s.
Strong built very good Defenses at USCe and UF. He also knows how big recruiting is in the SEC. He has HC experience and has the least downside. He is the obvious choice out of this list.

Strong would be the best - knows SEC landscape, great recruiter, immediately improved Louisville

Smart is an unknown - have Muschamp, Dooley and Fisher done anything to make you think there an upgrade right now
