Has mediocrity become the standard at Miami now?

Why fire him, pay him and pay a new staff when they are mired in sanctions. He seems to be doing the best he can with what he has got to work with.

If the Coaching Changes board had been around when Butch Davis was there, you would have started this thread about him.

he's not a great coach but I don't think they can do much better. It's a rebuilding project without fan support or the national swag they had 20 years ago. Smallish private school that doesn't have the money to keep up with the big publics.

They also can't figure out whether they even want to be big time as they are in-fighting about the impact of athletics on academics. It has a good recruiting base but it really isn't all that attractive of a job IMO.

because with what he has had to work with i.e. admin, sanctions, shite facilities, shitty recruiting budget, shitty staff salary; he has done a pretty good job.

yea he has done a decent job rebuilding the program but they will never be elite again unless they commit to athletics and right now, the bitch in charge is not going to do that because of the sharpiro thing dragging her name through the mud.

Because he was loyal to the program when sanctions were coming down the pike when he could have bolted.

Miami has enough money to hire a better coaching staff. What they have now is garbage. And, Al Golden wasn't as good as his record at Temple would indicate. Sure he made Temple respectable but for a program with the biggest budget and best recruiting in the MAC Conference, Golden never beat a MAC team with a winning record. I hoped Golden could make the jump to big time college football but he's inept.

At this point, I can say Al Golden isn't as good of a coach as Randy Shannon or Larry Coker. But, the lack of priority the school has placed on football and the way major southern college football has been built up so are the real culprits in Miami's demise.

Butch finished in the top 20 4 times in his first 5 years. Al Golden has finished ranked zero times.

Bad relative to what Erickson and Johnson did except for 97 which was just bad. They're just normal bad now.

He had very very little to work with. They are just starting to get a reasonable amount of depth

He's doing his best: administration isn't helping when they want the school to basically drop football and doesn't care anymore.
