Down in south Texas the rumor is that Texas didn't offer enough for Saban to want to inherit the mess. Thoughts?

I know, lots of those the last week or so. But very plausible. Texas just keeps looking worse and worse.

Indeed, it will take some time to recover from this cluster!

Haven't heard on radio or anything, just from a few "big money" guys at the golf course this morning.

Mack is ready to go when the successor has agreed to a deal.

Yeah...I think I remember talking to Powerman a bit after my Spurs meltdown last year haha.

Good to know there's more of us.

The rumors around the oil patch is that they have been workin on Saban for two years and can't get it done. So this year they decided to throw a ridiculous number at him and he turned it down, and to save face they allowed Mack to stay implying that he was their guy all along. But what do a bunch of oilfield trash know.

Rumor? How is that a rumor? Saban literally turned them down, how else do you explain why he is the coach at Alabama still?

It's possible. I don't see what the great mess is there. What Texas doesn't have is that football-above-all-else culture that Alabama (and LSU to a large extent) has. That makes it harder to win.
Oh they have more money than LSU or Alabama, but it takes a lot more than that.

This whole scene was clutter X 1000. Saban was starting to have extra work addressing this issue with recruits. To keep this class intact, he had to shut it down and take care of business or get off the pot. He chose to take care of business.

This is my thought as well. As time moved forward it became apparent to Saban that UT was not anything he wanted a part of.
