One thing about the Jon Snow parentage, is when David Benioff and D.B. Weiss first talked to George about making the show, George asked them "who's Jon Snow's mother?" They answered and he agreed to give them the rights. Goes back to what I was saying about George being happy that intelligent people read his books and figured out who Jon's parents are. Let's me know that they told him the correct answer and he knew that these two guys aren't idiots.
Agreed. Also, it makes it interesting as to how they will incorporate hints to Snow's parentage. I see Jorah who knew Ned(for however long he remains with Dany before he's banished of at all), Barristan in relating stories of Rhaegar, the Reeds (have they told TKotLT story yet?), Jaime (was at Harrenhall and probably heard stories plus being in the thick of things in KL), Maester Aemon (if waxes on his brother Egg and Targ traits that Jon may display at the Wall), and a long shot Edric Dayne (if he comes upon Arya in her Hound travels, very slim possibility).

The hints/evidence are all there in the TV show. It may be more subtle than the books, but it's there. I also think Benjen and possible Aemon and Jeor knew. The whole conversation between Benjen and Jon, back in the pilot episode. Benjen basically dissuades Jon from joining right away and ominously tells him "you don't know what you'd be giving up."
KotLT hasn't been told yet in the show, but it could happen sometime during season 4 as they make their journey to see Bloodraven.

Bran would be an effective way to do this. He see things that have happened in the past, without revealing too much all at once, all the while building up to the big reveal.

Who would be upset if R+L=J wasn't true? What if his parents really are just Ned and Ashara? And Ned never said anything to anybody because that went against everything he stood for?
I don't necessarily believe this. I'm just curious what others think

It would be a huge letdown. Odds of that happening are 1%. George states that he never reads message boards and that he's not changing the story because of fans/that he's always has and always will stick with his plans for the last 2 books.
But I tend to agree that he's happy that he has some intelligent readers; there's a lot of readers who are casual book fans, casual show fans who haven't figured out any of the theories, despite the evidence being there.

"Hodor," said Hodor while Hodoring.

I started a re-read from book one and couldn't get over how many times it alludes to Jon looking like Ned, though. The theory is possible...but Ned could have saved himself some grief if he had come up with another story.

How does Varys know all the secret passages in the Red Keep?
I have my theory and presented it before in here but I would like to hear some opinions.

BUT, is there any point in having Daario??
In my opinion, there is always a very good point to getting good sex.

Sex with Daario does not equal good sex

He's been around for awhile and made it his job to know everything he can. It's always been his advantage to know the tunnel and it's enabled him to have fewer "birds" than what they think he has because he can send them through the tunnels to monitor convos, making him and his birds a tight and loyal click. He has no double agents in his group, isn't there any wonder why we know everything about him from his own tongue, not from whispers told to other characters..cause there are none.

I just thought that maybe he found a book or a secret copy of the original plans of Maegor. Apparently there was Larys Strong that knew all the layout and he just up and disappeared. So maybe he found something of his.

Maegor killed everyone involved with the construction of the secret passages so no one would know except targaryen family members.

I don't even think some of the Targaryens knew about them. There's that period around The Dance of the Dragons and not long before Robert's rebellion, where the Targaryens were just a fluster cuck of deaths and distant heirs coming into secession. But what meant by copy of original plans is maybe Maegor had a copy made so he wouldn't get lost. The only other way I think Varys knows the ins and outs is trial by error.
What was your theory on it? I think I remember seeing you post it a while back but that was when I was still reading them for the first time and I was careful not to read too much of this thread.

Varys is a warg and was able to find all the passages by warging into cats and other creatures.

Not bad. Only thing I could say to refute that would be Varys "claim" of hating all things magic. But the key word is claim.
Another way he could have learned the tunnels is by sacrificing his "little birds" going down into the depths. They learn the tunnels, awesome. They die trying, no skin off his back. The wiki just says that he mastered the secrets so...
