The more I think about the GNC the more I like it. It makes too much sense for the Boltons and Freys to die from treachery as they did to so many others. I just don't see some straight up picture esque battle happening between Stannis and Roose.

Anyone want to provide a pithy summary of the GNC?

I would buy it, but I don't buy that they'd make Jon the King of the North over Rickon or Bran.

Plus I think the Northern houses are about to murder Bolton and his men as soon as Ramsay heads north to the wall to fetch his bride and his precious Reek.

Galbhart Glover and Maege Mormont were told to deliver a message that Robb intends to make Jon Snow his heir. Somehow, the message is delivered and all the northmen know Robb's intentions, and instead of telling Stannis or Bolton, they keep it under wraps and let Stannis and Bolton beat each other up and weaken their forces. And THEN, the Northmen, at full strength, wipe out the victor of Bolton vs Stannis and make Snow the king.

I think that's it. lol

I have a question: why do so many people think that Edmure is a dumbass? He's made some mistakes, sure, but it seems more to be his incompetence as a battle commander than being stupid. If it were a time of peace, I think Edmure would have been a fantastic lord. He was just not the right lord for war, anymore than Randyll Tarly is the right lord for peace, but a perfect one for war.

Even seen some posters blaming him for the Red Wedding, when I'd say he's pretty far down the list:

1) Walder Frey
2) Robb Stark
3) Tywin Lannister
4) Roose Bolton
5) Lothar Frey
6) Black Walder Frey
7) Rickard Karstark
8) Catelyn Tully
9) Edmure Tully

It just seems to me that people give Edmure way more shite than he deserves.

Agreed. Wasn't his fault at all...Definitely was Robb's terrible decision making though. Another case of GoT men not thinking with the right head .

I think more people think he's a dumbass cause the show made him look like one in any scene he was in.

The arrow shooting scene with him and Blackfish was hilarious

Yes, and that was taken straight out of the book, so you can't blame the show for that one.

I think Edmure would have been an extremely average lord.

FIFY

ETA - but he's not responsible for the Red Wedding really in any way. He didn't even want to go himself.

It was and I wasn't. I guess I never thought of it before while reading the books. I just think the show made me think of him as of dumbass more than the books.

The RW happens no matter what. He's still alive, so maybe he can show some badassedness the farther it goes. He is the Blackfish's brother

I think Edmure earned his reputation, he squanders his forces in a pointless battle that derails Robb's plan and any hope of destroying the Mountain's forces.

A single frick-up, and an understandable one since Blackfish and Robb kept him in the dark. Robb marrying Jeyne is a gigantic mistake.

It's not a question of poor execution, it's the decision to fight the battle in the first place. The mill is of no strategic importance, and the losses are irreplaceable, as is the opportunity to destroy the Mountain. Edmure just doesn't get it. It's an intelligence test, and he falls flat.

I think I'd move Catlyn up that list a good bit. Mostly because I pretty much hate the character. But also because her freeing Jamie Lannister and loosing the Karstarks played a pretty big part in the bad stuff to come.

Maybe so. I forgot the Westerlings who betrayed Robb when they sent back Kevan's other son.
