I may be thinking of the exact POv, but I recall the text describing the sculptures throughout the castle (which is much more massive than the show lets on, the pic a few posts ago more accurate, IMO) actually transverse halls/ rooms, and if you singled out any one dragon, you might see the head and neck from the exterior, and the back/wings on the interior...or vice versa; none are disembodied heads, but all are complete, body and all...as if the castle itself were made of intertwined dragons...seems like he tried to count them once and lost track after a Rediculous number.
It was obvious to me they were all actual dragons waiting to be released...unless this was the idea behind the structure itself, to make would be invaders think twice, or just homage to the prophecy of AA in architecture. Hell, dragonstone may not be as old as say, Winterfell, but we know its older than the Doom.
I don't remember the active volcano on dragon stone, biut that would explain the black beach rocks...

Another reason to re-read these massive books. I was reading and Arya POV chapter last night and I had forgotten the whole thing. She was chasing cats, and had to run away from Myrcella and Tommen, who thought she was just some boy. She ends up below ground where the Dragon skulls are, and in trying to get out of there, she overhears the conversation Varys and someone else, I can't recall, about wanting Ned killed.

This exterior shot from Gendry's POV is really what I was referring to. This looks NOTHING like DS from the text.
And the "disembodied" head in your pic from the show contradicts what I remember from the text, too
In fact, if I had to guess which Westeros stronghold this was, I would be 99% positive it is Storm's End.

I've come up with a theory over the past few days that MAY be new...Taena Merryweather's lover overseas was Oberyn Martell. Why else would Martin make such a point about Cersei finding out? She described him as a man who didn't take no for an answer which is what I think he described himself as being or maybe Ellaria. Doran tells the sand snakes and Arianne that they still have friends at court when he uncovers Cersei's plot to murder Tristanne.
Taena was a Dornish spy or at the very least sympathetic and just sending a warning to Doran before the plan could be carried out. In AFFC Cersei pretty much only confides her plans in Taena. What other importance would she have? She obviously isn't a Tyrell loyalist but she definitely isn't a real friend to Cersei either.

Read Cat's chapter where she finally got to the Vale with Tyrion last night. The climb up to the Eyrie was just great to read again. That part where Lysa was telling Cat it was impenetrable just has to be foreshadowing something. Maybe Dragons. That seems like the obvious choice. But I want to see a ton of Dothraki scaling it while Dany goes apeshit up top, killing all the guards at the Stone, Snow, and Sky waycastles with her dragons. Sending one to each point, and her up top.

So the list of Houses and their House Words that Manwich posted in the semi-Hodor thread got me thinking, any theories on why GRRM would create so many mottos for so many Houses, yet not reveal the Frey House Words to this point? What would they be?

I have a somewhat love/hate feeling about the crackpot thread. I love the great theories that seem to fit the epic story so well. I hate the fact of waiting for the next book to prove/disprove some of the crackpot theories.
One interesting article i read about GRRM, he gets pissed off when fans/readers guess his plot lines in books, but he doesn't change the story too much like other authors.
I thought that was kind of funny. Working hard as an author to have a group of fans guess the storyline to major characters in the book.

They're not heading back there til spring. The series will be over by then. I don't think we'll ever see the Eyrie again.
