Hands down my favorite book of all time. Beautiful writing and a badass revenge plot. It's on a short list of books that made me feel like I could actually see the world in the pages. As a bonus, it also inspired Shawshank Redemption.

So what say the book board? Any other fans of Alexander Dumbass?

One of my favorite books as a youngster.

I only recently realized the version I read was abridged. I need to find the full book and give it a read sometime.

My third favorite book of all time.

I saw a movie they made a few year back and it was the first time I was violently angry at a horrid interpretation of a literary masterpiece.

I loved that movie. Richard Harris, Caviezel, Luis Guzman (wonderfully miscast) and the awesome Guy Pearce hamming it up.

Great book. Love a lot of Alexander Dumas' work.

I haven't read it yet, but I loved The Three Musketeers. That book has the best, most hateable villain I can remember. Hated that bitch.

Read it at 15 and loved it. Read it at 45 and lovednit again. It is a little strange because every version is different.

Honestly I think this is the best book I have ever read. I wish it would get a serious movie attempt like Lord of the Rings or maybe a very well done bbc mini series. There is so much depth and interconnected plot lines that putting it in one movie could never do it justice.

Dumas had such a way of writing about places in time in particular that could make you fell like you were there. Understanding what 18th century Rome would be like, or Napoleonic France, it has always been inspiring to me. It's a shame that the book is only found 99% of the time in an abridged format because the full book is a masterpiece of literature. Greatest prison break story, greatest treasure hunt story, greatest revenge story all in one.

This thread inspired me to pick up the Pelican version at B&N. Has quite a bit of heft to it. Since I only read in bed right before I go to sleep, I'll report back here in about a year.

I've watched Shawshank probably half a dozen times, and that line cracks me up every time...

Recently finished unabridged book and yes it is a must for readers. Definitely more of a "guys" book.
