Pittsburgh Steelers star RB Najee Harris has been lucky enough to have played for both Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. In a recent interview, Harris talked about the difference between the two legendary coaches...
quote:

“Coach Saban is worried about school and football. He’s mainly about handling your business. Coach Mike T is more of a players’ coach. He sits down and chops it up with you to see how you’re doing. He’ll even joke around in the locker room. You probably aren’t going to get that from Coach Saban. That’s not a bad thing, that’s just how he is. But they both know how to win, and that’s so important.”

One is the greatest college coach of all time. The other hasn’t won a playoff game in 5 yrs and is overrated af.

Let’s not forget, Saban couldn’t hang in the NFL. Saban is definitely the best little league coach of all time, but he couldn’t hang in the big leagues.

Winning in college when you recruit the best players year in and year out isn’t quite the same thing as winning in the NFL.

mule64, recruiting is a part of the puzzle for a great collegiate coach…one of the key metrics that measures how successful they are as a collegiate coach! Your comment makes you look like a dumb “arse”!

Please explain what makes Tomlin legendary? My exhaustive research comes no where near that analysis.

Yeah Tomlin is a good coach. You guys are really tripping balls if you think Saban is on his level coaching wise. It is a lot harder to win in the NFL than in college. So much harder, that Saban barely made it 1 year in the NFL.

Saban left the NFL. Not the other way around. He could have went back whenever he wanted. In your heart of hearts u would take Tomlin over Saban as your coach? Seriously?

I think a coach should be able to connect with the players. At the end of the day, the players need to like the coach, but they also have to respect you. Without respect, you cannot get anywhere. If they like you and respect you, they will play their hearts out for you.

Show me a coach that players “like “ and I’ll show you a loser. Anywhere besides Pittsburgh and Tomlin would have been canned a long time ago. The coach has be an authority figure.

players do NOT need to like the coach. Player's coaches don't usually work, and certainly not in the college game.

Saban needs to stack the deck and have all the best players. The NFL doesn't provide that and that's why he flopped.

Why are bama fans so defensive? It is what it is. Saban is the GOAT college coach. He failed as an nfl head coach miserably and couldn’t wait to get out. Both statements are true. Relax and quit being bitches about it

Tomlin is nowhere near a legendary coach. Over the past 10 seasons the Steelers have won a grand total of 3 playoff games and haven't won a playoff game in 5 years. Tomlin is 8-9 all time in the playoffs and has missed the playoffs 6 times in his 15 years. Hardly the resume of a legend. Okay, he won a Super Bowl and went to another, granted he inherited a staff with a future hall of fame QB, another hall of famer already inducted, two current HOF candidates and a couple of defensive player of the year winners that most likely won't get in the hall. Since those guys retired? Three total playoff wins, and that was during a four to five year stretch where the Steelers had the best roster in football.

Tomlin hasn't won squat since Cowher's players grew old. Overrated, fake tough guy. He's average at best.
