When will Nick Saban pack it in at Alabama? ESPN's Rece Davis took his guess at the topic last week...
quote:

"I think he just relishes everything about it, from impacting players to designing defenses to demanding excellence to being able to use his platform in other areas of business. For a man that age, I set the number pretty high at 4.5 (seasons)," Davis said, (first transcribed by 247Sports).

I remember Steve Spurrier retired at Sabans current age. Spurrier said other schools were using his age against him in recruitng. I could see if talent ever dips that he would retire. But that does not seem to be happening anytime soon.

Does every year he doesn't win a Natty make him want come back more or less? I mean Georgia seems to be a lock to make Final 4 and probably title game, so that would be 3 straight seasons since Nick won a title.

Bama winning it this year no recruiting class under Saban has gone without a Natty

Here is a number to think about, 10. That is the number of national titles Coach Wooden won at UCLA. Coach Saban really wants to tie or break that record. He will at least tie it before considering retirement.

I'm not sure if he pulls a Bowden or Joe Paterno and stays beyond the fire and desire has passed. I think he is more self aware than that and will realize when his time has come. I think he truly loves the teaching aspect, the money, and he needs it. I don't know if he would know what to do with himself in retirement.

Miss Terry won't let him hang out at the house all day since he boinked candy Edwards. She wants him to maintain a job.

His opinion has as much credence as my Uncle Fred’s. Uncle Fred died 8 years ago.

Doesn’t matter; former Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban quiet quit a couple of seasons ago.

At an absolute minimum he'll coach through 2026...Bama plays at West Virginia in 2026 and that will be kind of a homecoming for him. I think he goes through the 2030 season personally and the next Bama coach will begin in the 2031 season.

I have a glimmer of hope that he gets tired of dealing with the NIL and portal chaos. But way more likely he takes the Paterno route and coaches until he physically can’t.

Orgeron and Les were also going to run him off and win multiple nc’s each.

No one should want Saban to retire…college football is better with him in it.

At this point, I think it's pretty clear that the only person we should be listening to about Nick Saban's retirement is Nick Saban himself.

he's the last person anyone should listen to, since he will not tell you the truth about when he will retire.

The answer is when his health starts to become an issue. He loves what he does and isn’t stopping to spend time with family. Football is his life, as it is with most successful coaches.

After 2024. He’ll lose to Kirby at home and one more time in Tiger Stadium. I don’t think he’s going to like the new SEC.

Saban does not seem to enjoy anything very much outside of coaching football. A normal human would already be hanging it up, planning on enjoying retirement, some traveling, time with the grandkids, maybe doing some guest spots on game day shows. It's easier to imagine him either having to be carried off in a coffin, or having a stroke or health issue that forces him out, than simply retiring.

If he loses to the Tigers again this year, it may be too much for him to bear.
