What if instead of the 1 seed playing 8 and 2 vs 7, etc, the highest seed got to pick who it wants?

So Boston probably wants no part of Miami and they pick the Pacers or Milwaukee without Giannis.

The Knicks pick next and so on to the 4th seed.

Imagine the disrespect a higher seeded team would feel if it got picked. That could bring out some bad blood and rivalries and then you have the drama of the second guessing of coaches who pick a higher seeded team to play.

Probably a dumb idea for a lot of reasons but could be fun.

Go back to division winners getting a top seed. Would have made the OKC, MIN, DEN chase that much more thrilling, with MIN having to play DEN in the first round.

I could see a universe where team picks in Round 1 the team they most expect to see in a Conf Finals.

if the timing is right (other team is banged up and not rested), and you just say F it, let's do this now and your path later on is easier. Some psycho coach will choose it

I think it could be interesting and also rewards the top seeds.

But I just think the strategy is wild. Bulletin board material out the arse

This works nicely in times when an entire conference is strong. It worked poorly in most circumstances where a division in a conference is strong and the others are relatively weak. I don't think there's a system that will work out best for entertainment in all scenarios, but I prefer the current seeding system.

Top 4 seeds get to pick their opponent, would be awesome.

KoC has been on this one for quite a while now.

If teams get to pick who they play it would def raise intensity due to teams feeling disrespected
