As daily life gets more expensive, workers are having a harder time making ends meet.

While wage growth is high by historical standards, it isn’t keeping up with the increased cost of living, which is growing at the fastest annual pace in about four decades.

“Wages are up 5.1% over the past year, which is trailing the pace of inflation,” said Bankrate.com senior economic analyst Mark Hamrick. “Indeed, surging prices are stealing the show on the minds of consumers.”

Even among those earning six figures, 48% said they are now living paycheck to paycheck, up from 42% in December, the survey of more than 2,600 adults found.

6 figures. 3 kids. Not paycheck to paycheck but I can certainly see how that happens.

Also I'm a moron

At the peak of Covid, we all saw the lines of people sitting in expensive cars, talking on expensive smart phones, while they waited in line for hours to get $40.00 of free groceries. So many people, with kids, in their 30s/40s/50s live their lives like they are 20 years old. Screw 'em.

You are aware that people live in a lot of other places where it's more expensive that shitty ol' Baton Rouge, right? Sure, six figures in BR is a dream and if you're paycheck to paycheck, you're a moron. But let's not forget BR isn't the center of the universe

And yet the cars are still flying off the lot as soon as they arrive. I think it's a little better now than it was a few months ago.

I think the stat is that like fifty something percent of adults in this country would not be able to afford a freak, unexpected, $400 bill. Its insane how weve gotten here

This was before gas and food went through the roof.

Fertilizer prices have been going up for 6 months now. (Some components supplied by Russia).

They could stop providing incentives to farmers to grow corn for fuel but we all know that’s not going to happen. Enjoy the new norm…..

Man, did BR hurt you? Mentioning BR 3 times in a short post makes you look butt hurt.

I make a little more than six figures. My take home pay wouldn’t cover my families normal expenses. I max out my 401k though.

Live in an a house under $300k. Two cars paid off but getting really old. Two kids in daycare equal to the mortgage.

That’s pretty sad when you think about it. I wonder how everyone else is doing.

A combined household income of 100k with a couple kids does not leave much room for big hits. All it takes is a new transmission, or a 5k insurance deductible, or some other unplanned hit to pop up and it will put a dent in your savings quick. After paying the house note, car note, gas, food, utilities, team sports, etc... there isn't much room for a new AC cuz you runnin the old Freon.

Gonna see less birthday parties at top golf and the main event and get back to the good old days of bobbin for apples!

Also plenty of people making 6 figures have large student loans they are paying back.
