re: Lowe's has sale on Lesco Stonewall 0-0-7 Crabgrass preventer
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/27/23 at 4:03 pm
The active ingredient is 0.68% Prodiamine so it’s a pre M for a bunch of weeds. The bag calls it “Stonewall” but not sure what that is maybe it’s Lescos name for Prodiamine ...
River sand for new sod
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/26/23 at 10:47 am
I know this board has advised against river sand due to torpedo grass and other weeds but a few places I’ve called have said their “pumped” river sand is the preferred material under new sod and that it’s clean and weed free. Is this true? Are there multiple types of river sand/dirt ?
Edit: I sho...
Hauling sod pallets
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/21/23 at 12:38 pm
Ordered 2 pallets of sod and the farm can’t deliver this small amount. Any suggestions or recs on trailer rentals? Expected weight is 3000-4000 lbs total so U-Haul isn’t an option. I’d just haul 1 at a time but it’s a 1 hour drive ...
re: Sod now or wait until Spring?

They say you can lay sod anytime during the year in south LA but it’s a bit risky in late fall/winter if it doesn’t get properly rooted prior to hard freezes. But even then, people lay dormant sod all year long especially when new homes are built. With weather being so hot this year I am thinking we...
About to lay sod, but weeds have sprouted
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/18/23 at 1:56 pm
I was going to sod this weekend but a number of weeds and grass have sprouted the past couple of days. Can I spray with Glyphosate, then add soil + sod a few days later or do I need to let the weeds die off for a couple of weeks first? ...

LSU Soil test results came in. What to add before laying sod?
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/9/23 at 5:01 pm
New to this and looking for some help. Here’s my interpretation:
1. Since I’m sodding, I’ll follow the “establish” guidance.
2. Nitrogen - Each of the Nitrogen options come out to ~4.5 lb N per 1000. (I based this off of using the molar fraction of N within each of the compounds.)
3. Phosphate ...

Soil prep for sod
Posted by Elusive Crawfish on 9/1/23 at 1:43 pm
Still waiting on a soil test result but plan to remove existing grass and lay new sod. Current soil is pretty sandy/loamy,
what material should I be looking for to put down under my new Bermuda sod? Topsoil? Compost? Sand? I’ve heard to avoid river silt/sand due to weeds...

Any recs on buying sod around Nola? Looking for either empire zoysia or celebration Bermuda.
Also, is October too late to lay sod? Better to wait until spring?...

I just got back into golf earlier this year. I have played a few rounds and shoot low 90s with steady improvement. I don’t have an official HCP but I use an iPhone app (the grint) that suggests I’m near a 20 index. How big is your group and where do y’all play? Id be interested ...
