We all certainly entitled to our own opinions and yours is just as worthless to me as mine is to you ha. Sitting here with my 12 year old girl now trying to get her 3rd buck of the year to finish off her buck limit. Does not legal rest of the year so bucks only today to the 15th. ...

Didn’t say I hunt or fish 5 days a week…..I said we eat deer and fish 5 days a week. But I do hunt or fish +-120 days a year. Teacher so the board loves me ha. But it’s pretty close on the hunting part. Thanksgiving break we hunt ever day except Thurs. Christmas break every day but Christmas Ev...

Then you don’t eat it near as often as we do. I do not exaggerate when I say we eat deer and fish almost every day. Minimum 5 days a week. Ground meat for burgers chili speghetti lasagna tacos etc. Backstrap and loin steak, fajitas, bacon wrapped among other ways. Link and patty breakfast sausa...

Just a couple chest freezers but they don’t last all that long. Of those we’ve already eaten prob 4+ of them. Won’t come anywhere near making it through the year with those. Last year we killed 24 for my house and that was exactly what we needed finished those off early December and started on th...

re: Chevy Traverse drivers. Thoughts?

Got the wife one new in 2011. It has been a great vehicle. She drove it until late 2022 putting 185,000 miles on it. Kids got bigger and more activities etc so got a Tahoe last year and gave the traverse to my mom. She drives it every day over 200k on it now and still running great. Very littl...
re: Any experience with the following 30-06 rounds?
Posted by Jvalhenson on 11/26/23 at 10:58 pm
We’ve moved on for the most part. Rezeroed guns for the new rounds on some and have large supplies of the new ones for the one still using them that actually shot the Normas dead on same as the BTSP didn’t have to touch it so just moving forward with them all. No reason to prolong the inevitable at...

I have searched high and low and have not found any at least not in the federal cartridge. Maybe some new old stock just bullets for reloading but as far as the cartridge have found zero. Between us Shot them in .243, .270, 30/06 and 7mm mag all had to switch. 243 wnd 270 they went to the regular...

I cannot. I’ve never had that issue at all. Only time I’ve seen nonexits were on hard quartering to shots that went in base of neck and was logged in opposite hind quarter. All broadside shots through shoulder or behind it all exited and left massive spraying trails as far as I recall. I’m sure ...

Federal Premium 150 gr Vital Shok Sierra Gameking BTSP (sight in at 100 yards and expect 3.3" drop at 200 yards)
This is what I have shot for over 20 years and LOVE them……however…..they were recently discontinued as I believe Sierra stopped making that bullet so the cartridge went too. I am down...
re: Any of you Gulf Coast natives ever hear the story of this guy?
Posted by Jvalhenson on 11/4/23 at 7:11 am
6+ generations of back bay trash here. Yea it’s all real. Possibly some stories a bit embellished but def at least majority true. Old family members knew him well and as said from what they all said he was as nice a guy as they come just wanted to be left alone. ...
re: Black Widow Bows
Posted by Jvalhenson on 9/21/23 at 6:27 pm
They are great bows but as said have a bit of a different “feel” to em vs other recurves. Also as said your question sounds like maybe you don’t have much recurve experience. If that is the case I suggest going with a good cheaper bow but not necessarily cheap bow. I am currently shooting a Bear ...

Which one are you looking at? I have a 2004 2100rg and it is a great boat but it is not made anymore. Of course it’s a def a no frills fishing boat but it is perfect for what we do. I’ve had her 75 miles offshore and in 1.5’ of water in the marsh. 9’ beam and rides fantastic I’ll put her ride up...
re: what jobs are “AI proof” and why?

Teachers are very high on the safe list. Covid proved that. All the “virtual/distance” learning etc failed overwhelmingly. Just showed 5-18 year olds don’t have the commitment/drive/discipline etc to do it without an adult sitting next to them making it happen. While the information can certainl...
re: Dog Recommendations

I’ve had a bunch of them over the years and now I only use Catahoulas. My current one is hands down the best track dog I’ve ever seen. Great with kids long as you keep the energy under control don’t let them think it’s ok to jump etc. also they will be protective of the house and family. All arou...
re: Any Trad Bow Shooters in here?
Posted by Jvalhenson on 2/18/23 at 10:44 pm
Just got back into it the last few months. Used to shoot traditional a lot in the 80s and 90s but had been compound only for the last 25 years or so. My son started shooting with the NAS team and though they shoot compound it is all instinctive shooting so I dusted off the old Bear Kodiak hunter a...
re: Anyone here knowledgeable about Johnson/Evinrude 2 stroke outboards on here?

It would only sound off for like 30 seconds each time motor was cranked then the alarm would stop and just the light would stay on. Was not worried about it not getting oil bc as I said I had extra oil board and just poured it in the tank so worst case it was getting double oil which doesn’t hurt t...

Still running my 1998 old 225 ocean pro. 3500 hours and counting. I did away with the oil pump though I premix in the tank. Had my “no oil” alarm go off while offshore. Had extra in the boat so poured it in the tank and marked the oil tank level with marker. Fished all day and when we got in th...
