Had a great time at Purgatory and heard good things about Wolf Creek. Anyone ever been? Also, is Wolf Creek the closest to Louisiana other than Angel Fire?

I ski'd there 2 days from open to close during a 17" storm and never shared a lift with a single person both days. Small and awesome. Steep in spots, flat in a lot of other spots. If you like to ski powder and solitude, then check it out. I'm gonna go back this year.

That's what I was hoping to hear. Their lift tickets are like half of some of the other places.

Wolf Creek is amazing. Went last December and got 3 feet in 2 days. When it snows there it dumps. There is no on site lodging. You either have to stay in Pagosa Springs or South Fork. The Pagosa springs side of the pass has more options to eat, sleep and things to do but that side of the pass has a higher chance of closing during a storm. I stayed at foothill lodge in south fork and it was cheap and they sold discounted tickets to wolf creek also. Only a few places to eat though and one grocery store if I remember correctly.

As someone side earlier it does have some flat areas so if you snowboard like me there will be times you have to walk out or skate a little. But there is some amazing hike to terrain and if it snows during the week you will still find fresh snow for a few days after.

Small to medium sized mountain. Cool cat track up after Knife Ridge walk to the tip top. When it snows there, it is a honey pot.

Not too crowded and lift tickets are cheaper than most large resorts.

I've never been to Angel Fire. Wolf Creek twice though.

Our family has been going to Wolf Creek for nearly 30 years. Grandparents bought a cabin for the family in South Fork because we enjoy it so much. As stated, no on-site lodging, so that cuts down on some crowds. There is not much to do in South Fork or Pagosa Springs for nightlife, so be prepared to bring your own fun.

The mountain isn't huge, but there are plenty of runs to keep you busy. I have skied all over Colorado, and Wolf Creek always seems to wear me out. Between the powder and no lift lines, you can ski hard all day and definitely be ready to crash once you drive home.

Grew up in Durango and have skied both... just got back to Tucson from Purg last week... conditions are great!! It is a family mountain so there are some lines but the crowd is very relaxed and mostly locals. Wolf is isolated and definitely smaller but they get the most snow in the state.

I vote purg because of Durango and the things you can do once you leave the mountain
