I'm planning a trip for August of this year and want to go somewhere new. My wife will be pregnant so we can't do much hiking unfortunately. Most likely just looking for a place with good views, culture and food so we can relax. Will be flying out of Houston so should be able to get just about anywhere relatively easily.

The easy thing would probably just go to an all-inclusive in Mexico, but I would love to do something off the beaten path a little, in a new country.

Any thoughts suggestions much appreciated!

(FYI have done St. Lucia & Costa Rica in the past, loved Costa Rica)

First question

How pregnant will your wife be at the time of this trip?

Doesn't united fly Houston to Oslo, Norway? I would do that. Otherwise just go soak up some sun on the beach in the Caribbean. South America is cool, but you'd probably rather go when your wife isn't pregnant. Peru especially.

Yeah I would not want to go anywhere too crazy that involved a lot of walking. Go somewhere relaxing. The beach sounds perfect. You can get drunk for three.

And Peru is amazing. I only spent 3 days when I went, but Machu Piichu is breathtaking.

I'm pulling about 5 days there in a month and that feels super rushed but you gotta do what you gotta do.

3 days you were hauling arse but I see how you could do it.

Landed in Lima Wednesday night. Had a Cuzquena at the bar and went to bed.

Got up Thursday and roamed around Lima for about 4 hours. Saw a few parks, churches, and govt buildings. Had lunch and flew to Cuzco. Climbed the hill in Cuzco to see the city with a view from the church. Had dinner in the plaza.

Friday morning took a train to Aguas Calientes. Spent the whole day in the small mountain village.

Saturday went to Machu Picchu. Climbed Machu Picchu mountain with my 50 year old mom. It took 5 hours with all the breaks we took (including coming down) but she made it to the top! Good bonding experience for us. Saw the rest of the ruins then went back and had dinner in town.

Sunday was all about getting home. Train to Ollantaytambo, collective to Cuzco, had lunch and a few hours to kill. Then flew to Lima and waited for our flight back to DFW.

It was awesome. But the whole trip was focused on going to Machu Picchu so we didn't get to do everything we wanted in Peru. I work for AA, so the quick trip is a common occurrence. International flights are dirt cheap and domestic is free.

Ah nice. Airline perks

We're landing at Lima at like 1AM catching 4 AM flight to Cusco, get cab to Urubamba. Wife will probably spa day, I will probably go find something to do.

Day 2: evening ATV tour of salt mines and the agriculture thing, etc. Morning probably Olly fortress.

Day 3: Big day. Train to MP, all day, train from MP to Cusco.

Day 4: Cusco

Day 5: Cusco to Lima mid day. 3 AM flight home so will leave airport, have a nice dinner etc.

Day 6: Back home

Back to OP:

Don't forget Copa Airlines has a nonstop from MSY to PTY. From there you'd be a short flight to a lot of destinations or can stay there.
