what to do in San Diego

The wife and I are flying into SD on the 26th of May, which is a Friday. We are in need of things to do for Saturday and Sunday before our plans start on that Monday. The only thing that I could think of is to go snorkeling. We have a great zoo here in New Orleans so that is not something we would want to see. We are both in our late 20's and not into drinking.
P.S. no pics of the wife! !

The zoo in NOLA looks like some crappy petting zoo in the sticks compared to the San Diego zoo fwiw. Seriously...it is one of the top zoos (if not the best)in the U.S. Very much worth spending a day checking out.

Balboa Park
walking around Gas Lamp District
Seal beach at La Jolla
Padres game if they are in town
Hiking Torrey Pines
Sea World
Lego Land
Hang out at Pacific Beach
Rent ocean kayaks
Rent bikes and ride up and down the boardwalks of nearby beach towns.
Drive up pacific coast highway to explore nearby beach towns (Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach).
You are doing something wrong if you go to SD and can't think of something to do.

We will be watching two on Monday and Tuesday.
My brother lives I PB so hanging out there and renting bikes may be a good option. Will most definitely cruise the Pacific Coast highway.
Thanks

We enjoyed hanging out there a lot. We also drove up to Newport Beach and rented bikes there.
Just very relaxing time. No specific place to be, just hung out and did whatever we wanted. Walked up and down the boardwalk checking out all the amazing beach homes there.
Enjoy your trip

The NO Zoo is no comparison at all to the SD Zoo.
It is the Disney World of zoos.
If you have not been I would highly recommend seeing it.
Go to Cabrillo National Monument, the view back into San Diego and towards the Pacific are incredible and you can do to tide pools.
Trip to Coronado is fun too, they let visitors on their beach and you can eat in their restaurants.

Great great post. I agree 100% with all your recommendations and hope that anyone going to San Diego does all those things. Great city overall.

Hit up Old Town if you want some authentic Mexican food. Really good!

I am going to San Diego in April for work and have 2 free days looking for things to do and places to eat. Already have reservations at Juniper and Ivy and Georges on the Cove for a couple of my free nights. Also looking for casual dinner/lunch options.

Can you elaborate more on this? The only time we kayaked in the ocean was in Hawaii and it was a lot of work. Our resort has them and they are on Sail Bay. We were thinking of going that route.
And does anyone know anything about the "Park at the Park" for the Padres games? I think we are just going to get normal tickets, if we decide to check out a game.
We will be there next week, for the record

Google is your friend. We never did it, just saw many companies that rented them out. Don't remember specifics.

I grew up in New Orleans and I take my kids quite frequently. The entire Audubon Zoo could fit in one section of the San Diego Zoo. It's huge and the habitats blow NOLA's zoo out of the water.
The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier that you can tour.
We stumbled across a duck boat tour that was fun and drove right into the bay to get close to seals.
We also went to coronado and spent some time over there.

Hike the trails in Torrey Pines. Head up the coast a bit to Del Mar and have dinner.

I second touring the Miday, you can spend nearly an entire day there. The zoo blows Audubon zoo out of the water.

Rent ocean kayaks, that would be in La Jolla where you would want to do that and you can kayak the coves.
The zoo has a tram to take you from side to side.

Agreed. I have been up to Del Mar numerous times and would recommend these restaurants:
Poiseiden - Great California Cuisine right on the beach
Pacifica - Classic California Fare built into the side of a cliff with spectacular outdoor dining views of the pacific
Il Forneo - Italian with california twist. Sits atop the cliffs with great pacific views and outdoor dining.
Also the hike in torrey pines is awesome.

Lots of good info in here, and we are definitely taking some of the advice. Anyone else have anything to add?
