Traveling to San Diego next week for my brother's commencement. Mrs. Bears and I will be going sans kids and I'm trying to plan some things to do. We're going to be out there Wednesday to Sunday. We'll also be celebrating our anniversary a little belatedly so looking for any restraunt recommendations too.
Any body live there or have any recs for things to or places to celebrate an anniversary?
TIA

Where are you staying? Pacific Beach has a nice boardwalk on the beach with tons of shops and a few bars. Drive 15 minutes up the road and you'll be in La Jolla which is a beautiful area. Really so much you can do there.

I love their taquerias. Street tacos are different there and are really really good. It is a beautiful city but I do all the kids attractions when there....zoo, sea world, balboa park etc. might not help you much...

Sunset Cliffs
La Jolla Cove
Ocean Beach
Boardwalk in Pacific Beach/Mission Beach
Padres Game
Phils BBQ
Taco Surf if you go to Pacific Beach
Balboa Park
Maybe the Zoo but its not worth the cost

I lived in San Diego for a year after Katrina.
Go on one of the whale watching boats. Even if you don't see any whales, its a grat view of Point Loma.
A lot of people brag on the Gaslamp District, but I liked Little Italy better. ( That's where I lived). There's a great little bar called The Waterfront. They have good burgers and on weekends usually sone live music.
If you have a car, taj e a half day trip up to north San Diego county. Solana B each, Cardiff, Encinitas. Go when you you will be there at sunset. Breathtaking views of the sun setting over the Pacific. There is a restaurant up tbat way on the beach called Charthouse. Pretty good food and atmosphere.
San Diego is a beautiful city and I had the chance to stay out their permenently with my job and sometimes I kick myself in the arse for not staying there.

IB is improving, but definitely check out Orange Ave on Coronado. With kids, Legoland, Seaworld and Balboa. If you are there on a Friday, MCRD graduation is near Phils BBQ.
Ballast Point, Stone, and Green Flash breweries. Lucha Libra is interesting with good tacos. Across the street from Taco Surf (Good call) is Bareback Grill and they have a good Kiwilango Burger. Staying with PB, Kono's for breakfast. Also Carlsbad and Encinitas are good towns in North County.

Just went to San Diego last month and made it to ballast point and stone. Stone is a great dinner spot with a really unique setting and ballast point is just great beer. I also made it to pizza port which has phenomenal beer and some great pizza as well. lots of great places to drink and eat, if you're in to that kind of thing.
