I leave out early Monday mornings and return on Thursday nights. I try to stay in Baton Rouge for that reason also.

So a 6:30a departure from MSY means I'm up at 3:45am

Took a 7:30am flight to PHL this morning and was up at 4:45am so our timing is the same. Those early morning AA flights MSY to Miami, DFW, and CLT are almost always on time though. I know Miami sucks in the afternoon/evenings but mornings are not as bad.

Plus I do get your frustrations about the CR2 BTR-CLT. If they upgraded once of those to a CR7 I'd use stickers every time and go out of my way to book it. Hell, even Lafayette gets two CR7s on DFW-LFT now but BTR gets none...

unlimited auto-requested upgrades on flights 500 miles or less.

Wait so upgrades are only good on short flights? I fly to the west coast via LAX or SLC on DL and therefore those wouldn't have upgrade potential? No thanks.
