We met some people up at Bay St. Louis yacht club for lunch and afterwards decided to drive along with Waveland beach before heading back to N.O. I was stunned on how nice the beaches are, white sands, ect. I know the water is not great but for an hour from N.O. I was pretty impressed.
There were also some big (3 stories) seafood restaurants on the water and then a fairly new pier down the street.
Did not see any place that did chair and umbrella service though.

You're probably about Tripletails. I've never been, it's fairly new. The Blind Tiger is right next door, I'm not certain they're three stories, but they've definitely expanded since inception. The blind tiger is good, nothing special on the food front. Good place to get a bushwacker and a quick bite. They all overlook the new marina. It's a cool area to spend an afternoon if you want to get out of Nola. Easy drive.
There's a lot of action around there. I grew up going to the Firedog and Goodlife with fake ID's. Those were the days. It sure has changed. It's a charming town. There's a good little coffee shop a few blocks in, mockingbird? They serve breakfast too.
A good part of Cruising the Coast is held out there year. That's a fun time to visit as well.
Katrina ripped the sheet out of Bay St. Louis. God Bless 'em.

We moved to Pass Christian last year. Love it here! The closest chair and umbrella service to Waveland that I'm aware of is on hwy 90 close to Henderson in Pass Christian. It's not crowded at all at that location.
Other beach rentals are in Gulfport and Biloxi and those tend to be more crowded.
The water is not great because it is the Mississippi Sound, not the Gulf of Mexico. I'm okay with that because I could never live in a crowded beach town like Gulf Shores....plus it would be too expensive.

Yep that's it.
A lot of empty lots still too.

I'll have to check it out. For a quick trip to the beach from N.O. this can't be beat.

It's a neat trip and just a short drive away from NOLA, and one well worth making. We stayed in NOLA this summer and then went out to Waveland, Bay Saint Louis, and surrounding area. We ate at the Blind Tiger and the beaches were really beautiful. Quite a bit of new construction, residential and commercial, has occurred, and the area really is revitalized following Katrina and then there was the BP oil disaster in 2010 which was the last time I was there prior to this summer.
Following Katrina it was like this;
And now you see this:

My dad lives there and has a bay boat so never had a boring time. But yeah, stay out of the water

If you're looking for a place to stay, check out Vrbo. We found some great rentals in the area including individual homes, camps and condos.
I finally decided to get my own place out there. It's so close to the city but such a different atmosphere.

The water is not great because of the river dumping muddy freshwater and industrial waste out into the Gulf, which affects MS and LA waters. The barrier islands are better for frolicking and swimming.
