Going with some old college friends. First time for each of us. We haven't gotten a room yet so appreciate any tips. We have gotten tickets for the first weekend through Tuesday. Where should we stay? Prices are creeping up in the hotels but if it's worth it staying near Ameritrade then so be it. Cabs and uber pretty easy to get around? Any good golf areas? How's the casinos? Anything else worth doing?

We stay right across the street from TD Ameritrade at either the Homewood or Hampton. You can easily walk to most areas (restaurants/bars) around Downtown Omaha. You will need to drive or cab to Barrett's Barleycorn (a must visit place, they had great crawfish last year!!!).

Haven't been to the casinos (across the river) so no advice there. Lots of activities right around the stadium. Beer gardens, bands, beisbol stuff outside of the outfield, tons of vendors.

There are also hotels north of the stadium that are a little further walk but cost a little less. All of the rooms near the stadium are very pricey but for being able to park my car and not touch it while I'm there or depend on a shuttle and still access everything I want Is worth it.

If you want to lower the room cost, book across the river and shuttle over.

Don't golf so no advice.

Enjoy it, it is definitely worth the visit. The people of Omaha love LSU!!!

Homewood is a stone's throw from the stadium but slightly further from many of the downtown bars. Just depends on what you're looking for. I like staying there, but I also enjoy the Hilton Garden Inn because it's still a close walk to the stadium and close to a lot of the bars and restaurants. I imagine it's not cheap or easy to get the homewood at this juncture, though. They serve free breakfast and dinner like all others, but also have free lunch like hot dogs and burgers during the day. You really get all your meals for free if you really want

Most everything you need will be walking distance. They have a nice zoo if there's down time for you. I'd recommend getting tickets early because the general admission seats have lines for a few hours at least. I'd rather be tailgating and drinking.

Yeah nothing really cheap In the downtown area so if I'm down for a "free meal".

We bought 2 regular tickets and a book of GA tickets. Is the GA line really that bad?

The first weekend of the CWS you'll probably have people there 3-4 hours before game time waiting to get the tickets. Then you'll need to go in early to try and secure a seat if you want one. I'm not sure how early you need to get in to try and get a seat though, honestly. I usually have an assigned seat that I buy so that I can show up at the start of the game. Maybe someone else can help with the time to go in to get a seat for a GA seat.

I spoke with Harrah's casino and seem to have a good deal with them and a bit cheaper. Probably going to go that route. Thanks for the tips guys. I'll bump this as it gets a bit closer.

We've been 6 or 7 times when the Tigers played and the cheapest hotel we found one time was across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa. That hotel had a shuttle going to/from TDAmeritrade Stadium so it was pretty convenient.

Some of the hotels across the river are near a pedestrian bridge over the river which goes into downtown Omaha between Old Town and TDA Stadium. Very convenient.

But if the Tigers are there, I always try to get a room at the team's hotel. As such, it is the LSU headquarters and it's like a multi-day tailgate party going all the time. Plus I've almost always been able to get tickets from an LSU fan at the hotel who had extras.

We stayed last year at the Hyatt Place downtown where the team stayed. In 2013 it was the Double Tree Hotel downtown.

There are bars on three sides (N/S/W) all within easy walking distance. There are more on the South side and more restaurants that direction.

I'd either stay close and pay the money or go across the river and shuttle. Some friends stayed in Lincoln and drove over for games, parking and traffic around game time kinda blows.

Thought about the team hotel and might do that next time. As to tix, we bought them once thru the NCAA site and had decent tix out by the foul poles. Bought tix for one LSU game first row behind home plate for $50 outside the stadium. The GA tix line starts early the opening weekend. I don't recommend this as there is so much more to do besides standing in line. Last year we found a source in Omaha for tix so if'n you know anyone up there, see if they can help you.

It's a great trip, worth the money but I've only been there when LSU is there. Leaving that time open if this young team grows up and makes a run!!

Not going to lie, we are crushed that LSU is no longer in contention. When we started planning it really wasn't that likely so we didn't put much thought into. The past few weeks we've been scheming all sorts... For naught! Anyway looking forward to heading up this Friday. Play some golf, watch a few games, drink some alcohol and generally try to stay out of trouble...

You will still have a good time! My husband goes almost every year and I have been once when LSU wasn't there (and a few times when they were).

We have made great friends in Omaha and they can throw down a tailgate almost as well as any LSU fan.

Wear your LSU gear and you will see what I'm talking about.

Barrett's is all LSU, at least when we're there. It is not close to the new stadium but worth the drop in. Last year they had some boys up from NO boiling crawfish, spensive but they were good.
