Things to do in Montreal?

Brainstorming some 2017 vacation ideas and the wife suggested Montreal. Anything do to for the active person? Anything outdoorsy? I'm not really into monuments, cathedrals or museums but from a limited searching, that appears to be the main attractions. We would be going with parents that are in their mid 60s too so nightlife activities may be limited.
Should I move on to other destination ideas?

Not necessarily outdoor ideas, but you may drink Cuban Coffee & Rum, &/or smoke Cuban cigars...

Strip clubs and room service escorts

I went back in 2014 for work and enjoyed just walking through Old Montreal. It has a French Quarter feel to it without the smell of urine, vomit and shame.

I'm going in 2 weeks for a bachelor party and will post about it when I get back.
I'm not sure what to expect.

My wife and I are driving up this weekend. I'll report back on our experience as first-timers

Summer or winter?
Go to Schwartz's Deli. Outdoorsy things aren't that far from Montreal. Kayaking the St Lawrence or Saguenay is an option.
However if you aren't attracted to monuments, history, or the like you will miss out in a good bit of Montreal.

We went in January 2002. Was supposed to go mid September 2001 but we know what happened then.
So needless to say it was cold and snowy. My memories are of the underground mall and the Notre Dame Basilica (which was wonderful).
Sorry I don't have more to offer.

Land in Montreal and spend most of your time in Quebec City.
