What are they in all?
I'll add my first two cent toward bus.
pro - better sights to see through the window.
con - seats dont recline to one's satisfaction to nap.

Are you talking about in the USA, South America, Africa, Europe?
I really really want to love train travel, but as much as it is talked about in Europe if you have more than 2 people its more expensive than renting a car. It obviously sucks in the USA, Uber has now made even the Subways with more than 2 people more expensive. I generally travel in a circle in Europe or elsewhere where I fly in and out of the same place because its the cheapest way I can get flights/ rental car deals. If you have to go one way, train travel becomes reasonable.
Bus:
No one takes the bus unless they have to, which generally means a train doesn't go there and they can not rent or afford car travel.

Air - still safest way and quickest way to go
Train - something about train travel is scary to me

There are a few higher end bus companies running out of Dallas and going directly to Austin, san antonio and Houston. Some go to OKC and points north. No stops in all the little towns like greyhound. The price is still cheap but you get free wifi and drink/food service on board. I havent taken it but know someone who used it to go to austin every couple of weeks and he liked it.

Pro - faster, generally cheaper than train when going cross country
Con - babies/kids, fat people who need 2 seats and no room if in coach. Secondly, the aluminum coffin you'll ride in to you're cataclysmic death.
Air only gets you to the airport. Then you still need transportation.
Buses and trains also but may be easier access then airport.

Trains really aren't bad if you don't mind taking nearly twice as long getting there if you had just driven yourself .
And the smell.
And the smell.

Just looked it up. The buses look nice, but it was $100 for a one way ticket to Austin
No bus is that nice.

Wow, he was paying like $60 round trip. Megabus is the other company but they get bad reviews. Probably better than greyhound though.

I know people who travel around on Megabus and they definitely have their own set of issues. It beats the hell out of greyhound though. And you can get some stupid cheap deals of you time it right.
I just put in today's date to get an idea of price for the bus to Austin, so I'm sure if you book it further in advance you can get a better deal.
