Possible job opportunity in Salt Lake City. I haven't visited or seen the city. Good areas to live, how is the traffic, weather, people, etc?

You have to order food if you want to drink alcohol at any restaurant.

The people are "interesting", but man is the location awesome.

4 ski resorts within a 45 minute drive of SLC. Park City and all its facilities are only 2 hours away. I could never live in a snowy place, but I loved SLC for the weeks I stayed there.

Another thing, the restaurants are always PACKED with large families. Waits were completely ridiculous. And then we realized the bar area of every restaurant we went to was hardly ever occupied. Never waited for a table for the rest of our trip.

I used to be a therapist for someone who is from there. They're really into their religion, and there's not a lot of room for anyone else. The lady I worked with was super cool and a free spirit. They kinda hated her and made her suffer on the regular for being Buddhist, among other things.

Friends of ours lived less than 45 minutes north of SLC and they loved it when they lived there(they just moved to Vegas for a HUGE job promotion for the husband). We went to visit them and stayed a week. Spent a day driving about SLC checking it out. Like others said, very clean city. Obviously all the Mormon temples there are pretty prominent. Most everyone in our friend's neighborhood is LDS(with the main bishop or whatever or their neighborhood temple living across the street from our friends). Our friends were living together before they married and said all of the neighbors were very nice to them.

Such great access to amazing outdoor activities no matter the season. Also...living in Utah...the mighty 5(Utah's national parks) is right in your backyard. My husband would move us there in a heartbeat if we could both get great jobs there, he loved the outdoors there so much.

Weird liquor laws like I mentioned. They won't sell beer there over certain alcohol percentage either. Beer sold in grocery stores not over 4%. Any beer over that percentage served in a bar has to be in a bottle. Draft beer can only be 4%.

Cocktails can only contain up to 2.5 oz of liquor...no doubles or sidecars allowed

Bartenders at restaurants that opened after 2012 cannot mix your drink where you can see it. This doesn't apply to bars and clubs.

Awesome place. Don't be turned off by the Morman influence. It's actually a great town with solid nightlife and some good bars and pubs.

I lived there for three years, about 30 minutes north of SLC. Like everyone else said, the outdoors are awesome. One of my favorite places to camp was Whitney Reservoir. Miles of backroad and great camping. Also, Beto's Mexican food!!!! Best late night food I ever had!

I like the city a lot. You are a short drive from great outdoor activities year round, but you also have all the amenities of a bigger city. Further, if you live in the city i.e. downtown, it is clean, feels safe, and has a great public transportation system. It is also an extremely affordable city.

Sitting in a hotel in SLC now. I've been travelling here weekly for more than a year for work. Great downtown, clean, compact, some good bars. The culture is different, very friendly, but not at all what I'm accoustomed to. Most LDS take it seriously and don't drink caffeine, much less booze.

They have great hiking and mountain biking virtually minutes from downtown if that's your thing and awesome ski resorts less than an hour away. There are multiple national parks within a few hour's drive.

If you like hunting, fishing or boating, not so much. There is no tailgating and you absolutely cannot take alcohol into a Utes, Aggies or BYU game. They're serious about that. The restaurants are not very good, but they're always packed with big families chowing down.

Downtown is a great place to live if you're single, if you want a house, north in Bountiful or south toward Murray are really nice, the only area to avoid is West Valley City - and WVC really isn't that bad.

The lake itself is useless, about half dried up and it often has a bad smell, you wouldn't want to live near it, but the only options for that would be north of Bountiful anyway. Very little rain during the summer, but a ton of snow in winter, they call it the lake effect.

Surprisingly, there is a terrible smog problem, one of the worst in the nation according to locals. And the wind. During the summer it blows and blows hard. Constantly.

SLC is a hub for Delta and they have the most efficient airport I've flown through and I've been through them all. Flights to just about anywhere are available and pretty cheap.

Hope this helps.

In my experience, there are many good restaurants in SLC, particularly ethnic ones (Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian/Pakistani are all particularly well represented).
