Tell me about Iceland- where to stay?

I don't even know any city names off the top of my head, but I've seen some photos of how beautiful Iceland is. My wife and I aren't seasoned travelers so we like to stay in the touristy areas for the first time visiting a place. Which city/cities should I be looking into?
