Taking the Old Man to Boston

Going for the Sox v Yankees series next weekend. Any suggestions on things to do during the day, and places we should eat?

Where will you be staying? What kind of things do both of you enjoy doing (i.e.- touristy stuff v. more local experience)? Do you drink, and what kind of foods do you like to eat? On a budget or an OT baller?
Answer these and I would be happy to help. Just good to have a bit more of an idea on what you're looking to get out of the city.
Edit: Also, if you give your e-mail address I can shoot you a longer list of things to do with descriptions. I wrote it for another poster a while back.
ETA: Lived in Boston for 3 years now.

Walk the Freedom trail, which goes all throughout Boston. I believe its like a couple miles long or something. I did this a couple weeks ago and was fantastic seeing all the historical sites in the city!

We're ballin on a budget haha. Not cheap but we're not into fancy dinners and whatnot. We'd like a mix of local and touristy. We do drink a bit, and not picky about food, just want a good experience. varnado34@yahoo.com would love for you to shoot me an email. Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Will send it in just a bit, so look out for it in case it hits your spam folder.

Always happy to help people when they are asking for advice on things to do in Boston. It's a great city and I like for people coming up here to really enjoy themselves. How many days will you be in for?

Legal Seafood is legit. I ate a lobster and had some chowda when I visited. Was definitely the culinary highlight of my last trip there.

I'm headed to Boston, trying to stick to a modest budget. I definitely want to try a lobster roll and NE-style clam chowder, was considering Yankee Lobster Company for both but I'm also thinking about getting chowder at Neptune. Thoughts?

Neptune for the lobster roll. And go for the hot lobster roll, not the cold one. Haven't had the chowder there, but I'm sure it's good. Grab a few wellfleet oysters before the meal too.
Edit: but I may as well warn you if you're sticking to a modest budget. A lobster roll anywhere is going to run you at least $25. So a lobster roll, chowder, a few oysters, and I'll assume a couple beers would make for a $60-75 lunch.

Legal Seafood is good and is in that aquarium area, prepare to wait
Italian area - can't go wrong there, Mike's Pastry
The tours of the breweries are fun
Prudential Center - take the duck tour, I know it's touristy but it's the best way to get the lay of the land.

There are a ton of Legal Seafoods throughout the city. It's a chain - albeit a local one with good food. The one you are talking about is in the Seaport District. Definitely the one with the best view, but honestly there are dozens of better restaurants worth checking out.

The North End - you went wrong there. Mike's Pastries is fine, but it's super touristy. Bova is better.

Don't bother with Sam Adams - not convenient to get to, super touristy, and overall not worth it. Harpoon is a great one to tour though. And make sure to get a hand made pretzel while you wait for the tour to start.

I personally hate tours, but you are right about it being the best way to see where most things are in the city.

Can you send me the info also ? Going in June for 4 days . Is Sam Adams anywhere close to fenway and the arts museum ? hndrli@bellsouth.net

Fenway Tour. Get tickets early in the morning and get them for the last tour of the day. You should be on top the Green Monster while Sox are taking BP for a couple minutes.

Fenway is close to the Fine Arts Museum. It's amazing if you have the chance to go, but I will warn you that it's easy to spend a day in there, which you may not want to do if you're on limited time. Sam Adams is in Jamaica Plain, which isn't too terribly far from Fenway, but I honestly cannot recommend you skipping Sam Adams and going to Harpoon instead enough.
I'll send you that information now.
