Headed to Seoul in 2 weeks for a family wedding. Getting there a few days earlier and looking for suggestions of what to do while we are there. Anyone ever been? Pretty excited as I have never been anywhere overseas in Asia.

The train system is awesome, *but*...

Sometimes they'll just stop the train at a station and it'll be done for the night, or you'll have to transfer. So give yourself some slop time if in a hurry.

The war museum is legit. Palace is...pretty good, but all the associated museums aren't worth your time.

If you're out drinking late, or just looking for cheap accommodations...the "love motels" are everywhere, and cheap (~$35). They're pretty clean, safe, and well kept, but the mattresses are super thin by our standards, sometimes.

I was there a few years ago for a couple weeks. I would get on the train system and just pop out and random places to explore/eat. I had a great time, but I couldn't tell you half the stuff I ate. It was delicious though!

Monitoring this thread. Have a layover there for 20 hours Sept 11-12 and would like to do some exploring. I'll ask my korean friends from philly if they can think of anything that we have to see

I visited a friend who lived in the Hongdae district of Seoul. That area has tons of live music and good food. Really vibrant atmosphere. I also enjoyed going to a night market and a proper tea house. Seoul is a good place.

Cuse, do you already know about the free transit tours offered by the Incheon airport? I've been tempted a couple times, but never did one. They are very popular for layovers.

My friends who have done a transit tour said they are rigid with the times, and you don't have to worry about getting back to the airport later than schedule says.

Perfect. I signed up for the 8am-1pm one (Seoul City Tour 1) so I'll let you know how Gyeongbok Palace and Insadong Street are.

Figure if I can be back at 1, my flight to Dallas is at 5:15, can check in and have a really nice Korean lunch

Update on the transit tours at Incheon airport, would highly recommend.

Got into ICN this past Sunday at 2am instead of my scheduled Saturday night 10:15pm, flight to Dallas was scheduled to leave Sunday at 5:15pm. Spent the night at the Grand Hyatt Incheon (2 min from airport) and got back to the airport at 7:30am for the 8am-1pm tour to Gyeongbokgung Palace and Insadong Street. Transit tours are only available if you are flying from one country to another via Seoul. The price is $10 or 10,000 korean won but they provide transportation to/from airport, a tour guide, and lunch. The tours will leave the desk about 15 minutes early and get back to the airport 15 minutes early, takes about an hour to get into the city.

Gyeongbokgung Palace was very nice, beautiful views of the city. Insadong Street had a lot of shopping and some great lunch food. Will upload photos shortly
