Seven days in Scotland...

To make a short story long, daughter & SIL will be returning to the states in August. He's retiring from the USAF after 25 years. He's been deployed everywhere but has been "based" outta Croughton, Mildenhall & Lakenheath RAF bases in the UK. He's currently deployed in Turkey and won't be with us.Daughter & 3 granddaughters have been in England for 14 years(2 born there). Prolly be our last trip over(in our middle 60's) and we've been a dozen times. Visited pretty much everywhere on the continent but oddly enough never Scotland...
Traveling over from 4/1 thru 4/15, budgeting 7 nights for Scotland. Only have 3 nights planned so far, 2 nights in Edinburgh & 1 night in St Andrews. Wanna spend 2 nights further north before we head back to Glasglow...
Any recomendations? head toward Inverness? Cut across to Loch Lomond park? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're trying to hit a few distilleries/breweries along the way. We're gonna hit Theakston's & Black Sheep breweries on our way up to Edinburgh from Downham Market (where my kids live)...
TIA

3 villages that the wife and I found very enjoyable were Luss, Inverary and Wigtown. I'm not sure about accommodations--we stayed in Glasgow each night and drove around during the day without much of an itinerary. On or off the beaten path will be entertaining.
Edinburgh was, as expected, a lot of fun. Wife also found shopping in Glasgow that she enjoyed.
We're in the same age bracket and hoping to go again before too long.

I learned about Twatt back when I was thinking about going to Scotland. It's about as far north as you can get, and you see the buildings in the photo above, that's about it. There isn't shite there other than the sign.
