Restaurant Recs for Venice Italy

Only had one night but I ate at place called Trattoria Pontini and it was fantastic.

I have been there 3 times, most recently last year. Restaurants - The best one we went to last time was Alle Corone. It is in a hotel near the Rialto Bridge which is the sister hotel to the place we were staying ( Ai Cavalieri). We ate there on our last night which happened to be our anniversary. Osteria Alle Testiere is a tiny restaurant specializing in exotic seafood. Food is delicious. Reservations needed. At the next footbridge over is Ai Barbacani, a more casual seafood restaurant that was also very good. A few blocks away was L' Osteria di San Marino which was excellent. All of these places are a 10 minute walk from each other and were near our hotel. Another great seafood restaurant was Al Covo which was a little farther away. .........Bars - If the weather is nice, have drinks on the terrace at Hotel Bauer. It is right by the entrance to the Grand Canal across from La Salute Church. If the weather does not permit sitting outside, go to the lobby bar in Hotel Danieli near St. Mark's Square. Favorite bar on St. Mark's Square - The Florian.

I'm a pasta fanatic. Seafood pasta and squid ink pasta at Trattoria Bar Pontini was the best pasta I've ever had. (Tie with Trattoria Zaza in Florence)

The cafeteria right off the bridge that leads to the outdoor market. Good, fast and inexpensive.

We ate at the Allie Corone this summer. It was pretty good. Harry’s Bar was worth the stop as well. My favorite part of Venice was basically bar hopping around the market during the day time eating litttle sandwiches and such at different places. Our favorite restaurants were in and around Positano.

Another experience that we really enjoyed was a neighborhood best known as the Jewish Ghetto. There were two restaurants with the name El Timon. No reservations accepted at one (mostly a steak place) and the other is like a seafood only place. They were both pretty good. Best part of this is the neighborhood. It’s basicslly hudrends of local twenty somethings that flock the side of the canals and bridges. Early evening was like a giant outdoor street fair. Very casual, and we enjoyed that night quite a bit.

Realize the trip was a while ago, hope you had a good time! Saw the recommendation for Zucca down the thread. My wife and I saw it on Yelp, went there right when it opened at 7...no one at a table or waiting. Asked to be sat and waitress looked at us and said they have reservations at 9. I think she was worried we were going to be there that long. She spoke to owner and then we were sat. They have a totally different approach to dining and the restaurant business over there.

Oh, the food....it was great. I was going to recommend it myself. They do have some lamb/poultry dishes.

Might want to check on what restaurants were affected by flooding as well.
