Going to Playa Del Carmen in a month with wife and 3 kids (8,6 and 4) for 6 days.

Thinking of doing one of the Eco parks and visit a ruin.

We are staying at El Faro which I'm told is in the middle of the downtown area.

Anyone have recs for things to do, places to see , restaurants etc?

TIA

El Faro is before you get into Playa.

You guys should go do Xplor Park.

Check out Hidden Worlds. Zip lining, rapelling into a cave, swimming in the cenotes, and they have a badass sky-coaster thing. Skip the sky cycle though, it kind of sucked.

And they feed you at the end

We went out with Riviera Adventours two years ago. Swam with sea turtles, snorkeled in cenotes, ate lunch at Oscar & Lilo's, went zip lining over crystal clear lagoons, and went cliff jumping into crystal clear lagoons. You could add on to that to see the ruins too. The people were great.

stayed here last summer with the wife. it was amazing. first class resort all the way around. its split in two parts. one side is adults only and other is with kids. they have plenty for kids to do including babysitting service.

we picked it because they had 11 restaurants and 9 bars on site plus nightly entertainment. its the best food ive ever had on vacation. everything was amazing.

they also have other stuff we did like tequila/wine tastings, cigar rolling, salsa dancing, sand volleyball tournaments, etc.

its about 5 minute drive from downtown playa as well which was big. a lot of the resorts are remote and a 30/40 minute drive into town.

also- i recommend the swim up patio. we did it and it was amazing. we left the door open the whole time and you just sit on your patio with a full size jacuzzi and just get in the pool and swim wherever. come back take a nap, drink more, repeat.

No, it's right in the heart of playa.

Eta: Tulum is an easy ruin to do with little kids. My daughter was 1 the first time we went.

I keep hearing the crococun (sp) zoo is really fun for kids. It's in Puerto Moreles, which is a little bit north of playa. I'll try it in June when we are there and report back.

Xel-ha is pretty good. I wish i could have gone without kids. Daughter is 7 now and she enjoyed xel-ha, but I think I would have enjoyed it more with just the teenager and other adults. We did go on a super busy day, which was a little bit of a drag.

I love playa, hope you have fun. El Faro has wickys restaurant and I live their food. Especially their wedge salad. Try imprevist on avenida 10 (I think) if u can get a date night away from kids.

Recent thread on Playa

Also a couple of places we liked last year:

El Muelle Restaurant

We ate here one evening, food was fresh seafood, grilled for a resonable price. $60 for app, 2 meals, drinks and tip.

Los Aguachiles

This was a little from the main area, still safe to walk. Ceviche, tostasas, tacos, etc. Mostly seafood. Plastic chairs and tables, but the place was packed.

We found the town was slow to get started in the morning. There is a ton of places to eat, 5th Ave had more higher end stuff, but quality was good to ok, some places were just tourist traps. 10 Ave has a lot of food also, area around Coco Bongo. Most places didn't open for lunch till noon or later. Lots of Italian residents, so there is lots of Italian and pizza. Let me know if you have more questions.

Was leaning towards Tulem and Xplor with the kids being so young.

Would like to get out on a boat (private tour or public) to see the area while on the water.

I'll have my wife and another couple with kids. So me and the other husband can do the big things at Xplor.

I think xplor is a lot ziplining, which means a lot of climbing the towers. Check into that before you spend 100 us per ticket.

There is a tour operator in nearby Puerto aventuras that does a really nice job. I want to say they are called quickie's.

Xplor is much more than canopy zip lining although that was the highlight for us. There's swimming the cenotes, driving UTV's,water slides. I could have done it for 2 days straight it was so fun. I'm not in tip top shape but i'm 43 and did not get wore down from the activities. There is a bunch of climbing towers but it's Adrenalin rush so you never realize how physically challenging it is.

Here's a few shots from my Gopro i brought along.

Crococun Zoo is small but legit with hands and a tour guide. We had a guide just for just 2 families. It wasn't cheap but I really enjoyed the visit. You can do the croc walk. Guide was like, yea, the rocks don't restrict their movement at all, If I say move fast, move fast.

It was all animals from the area, wild hairless dogs that they dropped this board and they came up to great us. Small crocs we held, wild monkeys in the trees. One got on my head and the guide had to take me to the side and threaten the monkey with a water hose to get it off. The monkey moved so fast no time to react. It was 10' away then on my head.

BUMP

Wife and I are looking at booking a trip to Playa and thinking about the Grand Riviera Princess on the north side of town. I know it's an AI but we enjoy the AI deals and have never been to Playa. I can get a Swim out suite in our price range and the resort looks pretty nice.

Anyone have any experience with this resort or any of its sister locations? TIA.
