I just booked a room for my ex-wife that she's going to be paying for direct on Marriott.com. I won't be there, so I changed the name to hers so she can check in without me. I've done this before, with no issues, so she can exploit my super shiny lifetime status for benefits.

However, this time, I received an explicit warning that if the name on the room didn't match the member's name (me), nobody would get any credit for the stay.

Is this new? Should I have booked the rez under my name and just added her to the reservation later? It's only a matter of time before she comes for me asking for a points booking based on times she's gone somewhere and paid for the reservation, so I don't want to screw myself.

I feel like this sentence needs more of a dissection.

Reminds me of the old couple that asked me if I could put their rewards card in the video poker machine I was playing

She checks in with her credit card, but because of my status, she gets food vouchers, free parking, etc. We've even stayed in the same hotel for athletic trips (not travel baseball, you heathens) and both her and I have gotten vouchers for both rooms just because I booked it.

There have been no hiccups until today for the booking I just made in early 2024.

What’s she gonna do? Divorce you?

I wish it were that easy. The problem is not appearing like a malicious dick, because then excuses on why I can't see the kids will start to crop up. Boy is on two Lacrosse teams at once, and practices/plays five days a week, and the girl is in some dance shite six days a week.

I have to pay attention to risks. It's already not good, so I have to read the room. I'm not paying for the room.

Then she needs to become a member. Time to stop being her boyfriend.

It's been their policy for a while. I stopped booking employees into Marriott hotels when I found out that I would get zero points for their stays. Switched over to Choice Hotels and I now get points whether I am the person in the room or not.

Book the room under your name. Call the hotel and tell them you need to add your "wife" to the reservation. I've done this many times for trips my wife went on or arrived at the hotel before me. They might squint if she has a different last name now.

I have some other opinions but this isn't the OT so I'll stop here
