Need a clean decent room in SF. Going in June for a couple ball games and to see the sites in and around the city. I am not an OT baller so I am looking for something under 250. Is that possible?

AirBnb or VRBO. We stayed in a studio apt w/ a nice outdoor courtyard for $175/ night including cleaning fee and taxes. Here is the link LINK. It was in Noe Valley/ Mission area. Nice neighborhood and easy to get to everything in SF. The light rail stop was a 2 minute walk up the street. Best of all, it was not in a tourist area.

Hilton on O'Farrell is nice and I recently stayed at the Serrano. It is a nice old hotel, but the elevators suck. I love the Argonaut at the Wharf, stayed there once when I got a great deal on Priceline---very nice!

Stayed in an Airbnb, it sucked. Shell out the extra money for a hotel.

Pretty much the only way we book lodging for the last 7 or 8 years. It was VRBO at first but seem to be more options on airbnb these days.

The Dylan at SFO Nice place near the airport, will be under $250 (more likely in the $150-200 range). No need to rent a car (and pay exorbitant parking fees) as it's 100 yards or so from the Millbrae BART/Caltrain station. Assuming you're talking about seeing the Giants, the Caltrain line ends a block from AT&T stadium, couldn't be more convenient. Other than baseball games take BART into the city, not Caltrain. Get a multi-day bus pass to move around within the city; public transportation is very convenient, inexpensive, and easy to use. I've stayed at the Dylan 3 or 4 times.

Hotel Rex was pretty neat if you aren't a Hilton/generic hotel guy. Had an old school vibe, old, dark bar downstairs. Walgreens, liquor store, and several restaurants right nearby. I would stay there again.

Be sure to look at the online bedbug registry. The city has bedbug reports everywhere.

We found a deal at the Fairmont a few years ago under $200, but I haven't seen it since. Great hotel though so check rates for deals. Marriott at Fishermans wharf is convenient and a good hotel but can be pricey. The Marriott downtown is a great hotel and convenient to the ballpark. Use Uber and forget the cabs. Go to Mothers and get the Monte Cristo. Golden Boy Pizza for the win!

I stayed at the Argonaut at Fisherman's Wharf a few years back. It was nice and within walking distance to just about everything.
