Y'all want reviews in return for Travel Board help ... here is mine although it was only a trip to NYC and nothing really fancy or exotic or adventurous to some but to us it was awesome. No pics as my dtr is in most of them and well, you can google what you want to see in NYC.

My daughter and I took a girls vacation to NYC 7/13-7/18. Travel board was helpful in many ways.

Flew Delta from Lafayette to NYC without a hitch .. worth the extra money to stay close to home rather than MSY to get the dates and times I wanted although CuseTiger was awesome in helping me look for the best deal. Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on 8th Avenue -- was nice and clean and I had a great rate with AAA but via Hilton.com. Was a fantastic location for what we needed although some did recommend we not stay in TS.

*Day 1 Went to the Rockettes performance and Radio City Music Hall were great -- bought tickets from the Rockettes site and were in Mezz 6 -- dtr who is a dancer LOVED the seats; got a discounted tour ticket with purchase. Tour was pretty neat.

*Day 2 Went to Live with Kelly .. for anyone wanting to do this (my dtr's request) keep checking to see when the ticket request opens for your desired date. For us it was a month before -- we got waitlisted but keep checking and you may end up with a PRIORITY ticket (150 of these are given is what we were told) or GENERAL (120 of these are give). All of priority will get in ... all of general may or may not. Our day, people with NO tickets showed up, got a number and were admitted after everyone else with tickets ... studio wasn't full. We got there at 6:15 or so and oh that was too early. But it worked out -- there's a food truck that is complimentary except for water and juice I believe.

Went to see Something Rotten Thursday -- got orchestra tickets from TKTS booth at about 545 and were in the theater at 645 (had to eat in between). Tickets were half price and the performance was GREAT. (We actually know and are really good friends with the guys who wrote its Uncle)

*Day 3 we went to Carlos Bakery -- thanks a TON to Quail Man who got us there .. SUPER easy to navigate the system. No line at the original one in Hoboken -- they said there are no more lines as there are more stores but we wanted the original. Oh and GET THE BISCOTTI!!!

Walked up Brooklyn Bridge (turned around halfway) but not all the way across and dear Lord watch out for the bikes! Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho ... that was a lot of walking.

That night went to concert at Madison Square Garden .. tickets through Ticketmaster. Lower level, row 9 section 108 maybe?? Kept checking closer to the event and TM kept releasing even tickets so we didn't have to pay resale prices.

*Day 4 -- Slept in a bit and then rented bikes from Blazing Saddles on the Hudson River -- this was SO fun until we got lost when the bike path wasn't as clearly marked in Battery Park. Nice people helped us out and we made it -- paid $5 to have the bike returned to the starting point by them. It was about 5 miles but we wanted to visit where we ended up (near Brooklyn Bridge).

Yankees game that afternoon -- the subway is full on the way to/from but it wasn't awful. Stadium is awesome -- sat in 419 and it was great especially when it started raining.

*Day 5 .. Catholic mass at St. Malachy's near our hotel. It was my birthday so we went to Central Park -- rented bikes again and oh my the people attacking you and telling you you're getting screwed price wise by the others. Had a good time but I'm here to tell you CP is NOT FLAT!! The north end for this Louisiana girl was not easy but I was shot from walking idk how many miles and the bike was sort of crap. Carousel, zoo -- small but nice enough.

*Final day spent all of about 30 minutes at the Met .. just didn't have time but what we did see was amazing. Suggested donation is $25 and they take what you give them with no comments whatsoever.

We used Uber, taxi, metro, pedi cab and my 2 sore legs lol. Had a great time -- spent most money on entertainment as we did some pretty "big things". We did split almost all of our meals as we like to eat but can't always eat a ton and we always had PLENTY. Several times local people saw us trying to figure things out and were very helpful -- guess we were obviously tourists.

We had already been on a previous trip with a school trip to 9/11 museum and memorial (although we did visit the memorial again briefly this time), Top of the Rock, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island so we didn't do those things again. The next time I'd love to go through Queens, Brooklyn and maybe do one of the double decker tours. I was ready/not ready to come home as reality bites.

Thanks to everyone on the here that answered my 50 million questions!

Yeah it was a really great trip ... my birthday was Sunday so that was special to be with her and doing something NOW. I don't want anything to happen and one of us say "we always talked about going". I've got several friends who have been diagnosed with cancer lately, one passed away, and it's been terrible. Just a little reminder to enjoy things while you can .. not that it has to be a trip to NYC by any means.

The northern part of CP can be brutal.

I've got general curiosity questions.

1) If you live in Manhattan and have a baby, how the heck do you get home?? Taxi I guess but after a while that shite gets pricey.

2) How do older people manage once they can't go up/down subway steps anymore? I know there are elevators but the people ... and not everyone got up to offer seats to the older ones.

3) How the heck do ambulances get to hospitals with all of that traffic?

4) And people must not do a weekly but rather daily grocery shopping. How do you get ice cream home before it melts???

5) All of the street vendors that sell purses, glasses, etc -- they put it out and pack it up every morning/night. Can they really sell that much crap to make it worth it??

6) How many jobs do people who work in restaurants/street food vendors/even subway employees for example have to work to live there? Or do they commute in from different outlying areas??

7) #6 leads to if you commute say an hour each way how the heck do you ever see kids/spouse?

8) There were some tired, haggard looking people on the subway .. businessmen, students, dressed up women .. how do you make appointments for business or personal and actually make it on time?

9) And finally (not really but I'll stop now) the homeless ... I seriously can't ever fully enjoy any trip because of this. Whether it was NOLA in June when I was there for a convention with my dtr or this past week, I can't give money to everyone -- I can't pick and choose either -- and I know good and well that some are likely bs'ing but as a Christian it hurts my heart to do nothing. (Wouldn't even think to say any of #9 on the OT .. they're mean over there!)

Just random thoughts ... and as a side note, we went to St. Malachy's Church 10 steps from our hotel for mass on Sunday. Seemed to be lots of visitors BUT many seemed to know each other as well from their conversations. Where do these people live? The apts around there looked like crap.

eta: I'm not crazy just genuinely curious. I do not in any way shape or form think I could live there BUT can't wait to return to visit!

i used CP to train for the Louisiana Half. i felt so prepared for the one hill i had to do during that half

btw, you don't wanna run the NYC half. you'd be better off running the brooklyn half 2 months later. march can be wishy washy with the weather. it's typically still in the 30s when that race is run and it's snowed on race day in the past. you'd be miserable

taxi for some/the more privileged. most just use the subway for getting around, but a lot don't leave their neighborhood during the child's first few years.

elevator buildings is the only way.

you'd be surprised how quickly people get out of the way, but it can be an issue.

well half the year it's still frozen when i get home because it's freezing outside but everyone has their own things. i actually take the subway to trader joe's every monday. most people just stay local and walk 5 minutes to morton williams or key foods or whatever and it's fine for those 5 minutes

varies, but many live in brooklyn or queens or harlem

weekends. it's a lot of commuting to allow you to make ends meet. it's a crazy process.

what do you mean?

i work with mentally ill, so i'm used to it. i've learned to just keep head forward and walk. don't give to anyone on subway or street. i just don't have the money.

New York is a one of a kind place. Glad you all enjoyed your trip.

I am fortunate enough to have a cousin who lives in the Chelsea district. I make it a point to visit once a year. Love that city.

I love the Louisiana half. Think I've run it 3 of the 5 years. But I do hate the overpass lol.

And #8 I meant how do business people keep appointments as well as others? Of course you allow time for traffic, longer subway stops/not on time trains etc but it takes a while to get from here to there ... It's not like everything is five minutes away where I live. And just the commuting would suck the life out of me but I say that coming from the semi country life and it's all I know just like city life is probably all they know.

And I guess the NY half appealed to me as it goes through Times Square and CP .. And I had friends there in 2013. They said water at stations was frozen and so were their gels. Lol. Yikes! Is Brooklyn flat???
